how to take zantac

Today i was prescribed zantac once a day, but i would like to know when is thr best time to take it like at night, morning before or after a meal?

Thanks

Hello Kareen,

These seem to be the standard ways for taking this medicine:

Zantac (Ranitidine) Dosage

Zantac comes as a tablet, syrup, effervescent tablet, and effervescent granules to take by mouth. It's usually taken once daily at bedtime or two to four times daily.

This medicine may be taken with or without food. Follow the directions on your prescription or package labeling carefully.

You should dissolve the effervescent tablets and granules in a full glass of water before drinking.

Measure the liquid form of Zantac with a special dose-measuring spoon, not a kitchen spoon. Your pharmacist can provide you with one.

For GERD and ulcers: The typical dose is 150 milligrams (mg) twice daily or 300 mg at bedtime. The maintenance dose is usually 150 mg a day.

For heartburn: The typical dose is 75 to 150 mg once daily or twice daily, taken 30 to 60 minutes before a meal or beverage that can cause heartburn.

For erosive esophagitis: The typical dose is 150 mg, four times a day.

Hi,

Is taken after meals, when the symptoms occur or before bedtime.  Not before meals.

Actually you can take them before meals but normally after meals or before bedtime.

Zantac belongs to the family of drugs known as Histamine H2 Receptor Antagonists.

These drugs work by blocking signals from the bran telling the stomach to produce more acid.

They are not an on-demand antacid and are best taken pre-emptively.

The actual timing of doses is not critical. They usually last upto 12 hours and once a day is sufficient for most people.

It is best taken half an hour before food - I suggest before breakfast unless you get your reflux problems mainly at night.
