Hpylori and antibiotics

Hi, I'm being treated for Hpylori at the moment, the test came back borderline which as was explained to was positive but just borderline. I'm on my 5th day of a 7 day course of the triple therapy, feeling really rough, dry mouth, dry throat, awful taste in my mouth, loss of appetite and nausea, not sure if medicine/ppi is improving my reflux, because I can't at the moment distinguish between my original symptoms and the side effects of the treatment, my buring chest ,throat and top of stomach does seem to have calmed down a bit, left with a sore feeling in my chest, maybe this is a sign that the oesopagus is healing, my reflux was constant and didn't seem affected by food, it was just there, I suppose that is because the cause is Hpylori, has anyone else had this really rough ride with the antibiotics?

Hello, I too went through the 7-day course of clorithomycin, amoxicillin, and omeprazole. I actually felt the same during the treatment, a little yellowing of the tongue, and some heartburn/indigestion. After treatment was rough, bloating/cramping/nausea/loss of appetite/fever/fatigue. Thought I was dying, turns out I had a bout with gastritis, what i wasn't told is that the antibiotics are so strong that they kill all the good bacteria in your gut as well. I've been cleared of pylori according to my endoscopy results but I still get some minor cramping and discomforts in my belly, at this point I don't know if my intestines are still trying to recover or its the GERD acting up, but I will have a colonoscopy soon hopefully to determine the issue. H.pylori turned my world upside down, it's been a whirlwind of events since the beginning of this year, so godspeed to you and I hope for you a speedy/safe recovery...

yes i had the same its a bit hellish. also i received a good dose of thrush (fungal infection) due to antibiotics then had to treat that.....

Thank you for your reply Theg, I've been to the doctors, she told me that a sore chest is a side effect, so hoping the soreness is the meds and not reflux, not got thrush, it cascasn't feel good to have that on top of everything else!....

Thank you DaniB, your message is very helpful, the doctor has said that if my symptoms cleared up in three weeks, I will have to have a blood test then to see if hpylori has gone and possibly a endoscopy, that is frightening me in itself!!

Don't be afraid, it's a simple procedure, pylori can still show in your blood for up to a year, so endoscopy is your best bet. They take biopsy samples throughout the procedure to test afterwards.

Thank you, that calms me a little, I think basically it's a fear of the unknown.

Hi Annette. Well, I just armed the treatment for H Pylori yesterday. I've had excruciating pain my middle upper abdomen with neausea almost daily for 1 1/2 years. Endoscopy 1 year ago showed clear. Blood test were normal. Had ct scans , X-rays and a host of other tests. All negative. About gave up. Had another endoscopy last week. Positive for H Pylori. Now , with all these antibiotics , seems like I feel even worse. Neausea Ted all the time and taking this stuff 4 times a day really messes up your day and night. But if this actually works I'm gonna give my docs Christmas presents. But if it doesn't work , well I'm better off not saying , I think. Anyway , I'm a day or so behind you. My big concern is all the possible serious side effects from this stuff. But untreated it can be deadly so I don't guess there's a choice. Counting the hours and days. Keep posting how your doing , please.

Hi Portacrean, on my last day of antibiotics, not had a decent nights sleep for the duration, feeling nauseous, loss of appetite, loose stools, but if it works then it's worth it! My main concern is my sore chest, not sure if it's a side effect or reflux, I haven't had the pain that you have had to put up with, just a burning stomach and oesophagus, I worry myself silly because of the borderline hpylori blood test, though apparently borderline means borderline but positive, going back to DR's in three weeks to have another blood test to see if it has gone, in the !meantime will have to keep taking the ppi's, might also have to have camera which is also making me panicy, I feel really anxious and jittery, I 'm sure this is to do with antibiotics,. When I am worrying I have to tell myself that I have been diagnosed with hpylori, so at least I know what I am up against, been told that I haven't got any red flag ups for cancer, but still worked silly, my life just now is basically miserable.

My doctor put me on 4 a day for 14 days. Triple antibiotic treatment. I think the treatment has made my abdomen and chest hurt more than befor I started though. But , the neausea has gone. He also stated that after I finish the treatment I'll probably get another endoscopy to make sure the bacteria has been erradicated. He told me it will still show up in blood test after treatment even though it's gone. So ill have another endoscopy. Today is my third day and my pain has seemed to back of quite a bit this mornin g. Hope it stays this way. I wonder why some people only have the treatment for 7 days and others for 14 days. I'm taking metronidazole 500mg, minocycline 100mg and acid inhibitor along with promethazine for neausea. Still have 11 days to go though. God , I hope this works. Been a long time since I felt like a human being.

Sorry. Not triple antibiotiic. Triple treatment.

Hi, it's comforting to know that someone else is having similar symptoms to me, I take four Amoxicillin 500mg, two Clarithromycin 500mg and two Lansoprazole 30mg per day, finished antibiotics today, tomorrow I start to have just one acid inhibiter per day for two weeks and then carry on with 15mg, blood test in ythree weeks, I expect I will berber sent for endoscopy, fear of the unknown there!. My sore chest is worse when I'm out in the fresh air, it's just like if you've got a cold and sometimes thee fresh air can make your throat asnd roof of mouth sore until you get back inside, if you get wehat I mean?, this only started after starting with antibiotics.

Sorry for spelling mistakes, I'm on my tablet....

I think we're on the road though. Sitting on my porch watching the birds squirels and rabbits in my yard. I think this H PYLORI has deepened my appreciation for nature. And yes , absolutely , it is comforting to know someone else is going through the same thing. I don't mean I'm glad you have it though. Just someone that understands. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Wow. And I still have 11 days to go. Uggg.

Same here, I wouldn't wish it on anybody else, it seems as life is on hold, I still have three grown up children at home, I try to be chatty and join in with the jokes etc... But this damn health issue is always there in the background. I can just picture you there sat on your porch, we must keep each otherr up to date. How was your ecxperience of endoscopy? Did you have tyo wait long for an appoint!ment?d

Didn't wait long at all. Talked to the gastroenterologist , and he scheduled the endoscopy for 3 days later. He faxed the results to my GP and my GP started me on the treatments. I was really apprehensive about , because I've had a few problems in the past. Explained to the anesthesiologist how I felt . He said the one he uses only works while he's injecting it but as soon as he stops you're awake. You don't go way under. Turns out he was right. He put the IV in and started it and q0 mins later everything was finished and I was wide awake. They called it furfurall , or something like that. Can't remember how to spell it but that's what it sounded like. Good stuff ! Yesterday , my daughter wanted me to celebrate Father's Day with my brother , sisters and their kids. But I was doubled over wit Reall bad abdominal pain all day and all night. So I told her I just couldnt. Wouldn't you know , today , almost all the pain , almost , is gone. But I'm just scared it'll come back. Yes we do need to keep in touch and stay on top of this , I think.

I'm probably older than you seeing you still have kids at home. But I'm telling you pain is pain regardless of age. I use to not pay to much attention to the older peoples complaints. But now I see they are just as relevant as anything. Can learn A lot from paying attention to what our elders say. Just need to apply it to ourselves as we age.

I was told by my doctor that when or if I had an endoscopy that they would just spray my throat and that I would be awake, I was thinking that was best for me because I don't want to be put to sleep. Such a shame about yesterday!,. I haven't had any abdominal pain with my hpylori, just reflux and lots of gurgling in my stomach plus a bit of burping, I was tested for hpylori because my acid wasn't due to food intake, it just started as a burning sensation in my chest and throat on the sevcond of may this year, I know the date because we were just on our way home from buying a new car lol, before that I had noticed a strange little soreness between my shoulder blades whenever I leant against a cushion or pillow in bed, this got worse, I put it down to the ankyspondiltis that I was diagnosed with 18 years ago, the condition over the years has given me lots of symptoms which have come and gone, I still think my back is an episode of my AS but can't say for certain.. By the way I was 60 last month.

Ok. I'll be 70 in July. I know about the spray. My sister had it done with the spray. Said she didn't feel anything. So , if she can then you can . It wasn't offered when I did it. Just different docs , I guess. I told my pharmacist about the abdominal pain and she assured me , without treatment , it can get a lot worse than this.. she advised me to go to the health food store and get some top of the line probiotics. She said she didn't think eating can keep up with what the antibiotics kill off. So I bought some this morning. Anyway!! I check this post all the time , so if anything interesting comes up , holler ! Now I can call you a youngster..😂😂😂
