Hi im a filipina who also suffers from HS.
Hi paopao sorry to hear this. Good luck.
How long you are facing?
Well i had it since 2010 but back then i started having boils whenever i have my period. That time i just thought that it was just hormonal. (Cause i dont usual have dysmenorrhea when im having my period or any symptoms) then it stopped. Then just 3 years ago i noticed that i have boils once or thrice a month. (Same spot everytime groin area) then i googled it then i found out whats its called. Then i tried observing my diet. I noticed that whenever i eat spicy food i get boils.( But before this i used to love eating spicy food its my favorite but i dont remember having this kind of skin problem before) but now whenever i eat spicy dishes the wound is usually deep and it takes time to heal and it super painful and it hard to walk. So now i literally stopped eating spicy food. But i still get boils because of the other nightshades. Specially potatoes and other food like sausages (they contain paprika) But the wound ia different like any other regular wound but of course its still HS.
Never consulted professional, becuase of embarrasment and i dont know which hospital or clinic to go since HS is rare case.
Hello from a sister Filipino! Please don't be embarrassed by having HS. It is more common then you think. I am a stage 3 and still debating surgery but unsure because the outlook isn't that great. I first diagnosed myself because doctors couldn't figure out what I had. Once I had proven myself correct I found a great dr, a dermatologist, and a plastic surgeon. Those would be who I would start with!
Wishing you a pain free day!
Dearest All
Do we have a patient group for Hidradinitis suppurativa? I am a research adviser from a pharma company who plans to bring in a clinical study for this condition.
Thank you
replying so i can just follow the thread. i was diagnosed with HS a year ago and got I & D operation. I was told that it was my smoking that triggered it. However, a year later, even if I quit, I’m starting to have flare ups again. I even changed my lifestyle and lost up to 40 lbs just because I really want to lose this. I’m looking for a dermatologist who have experience in handling this case in Metro Manila. Any recos?
Hi tj. May I know the doctor you have? Most doctors I’ve. been in really couldn’t say what I have
hello, may i know what kind of surgeon is your surgeon? I’m considering to have operation on my skin tunnels but don’t. know where i should start. i dont have any bumps anymore. i just have tunnels which left me less confident wearing sleeveless clothes. thank you!
Hi ali, unless you are having a lot of outbreaks and severe pain I would think twice about the surgery! It is long and somewhat painful! I used a Plastic Surgeon which is highly recommended. Even though it was a big surgery I did it as an outpatient. When I woke they had placed a vacuum on my armpit which helped it heal faster. There is so much I wasn’t told before about the drainage and how it will look post surgery so feel free to ask if you want to know. I can email you pics too. Also, with my wide excision surgery they grafted skin from my thigh. 4.5 months later I am still healing and was told it could take a year and may need physical therapy afterwards. I still have bad HS just not in that exact spot. Good luck from one Filapina to another :). Wishing you the best!
Yes there is such a group on Patient and I am a member ![]()

Hello I’m an 18 years old grade 12 student and I think I have hs because one time I tried to search in Facebook about abscess that are not getting well because I have this since I was 16 I also have anxiety that’s why I’m so afraid of this I always think that i might die, I’m having a flare in my underarm near my boobs, when I was 16 it started in my neck above my collarbone I noticed that theres lump there and when I touch it, it hurts and after some weeks I noticed that the lump became in my underarm and it really hurts to the point that I can’t put my underarms together to the side of my chest what can I do? I know hs is not common here in ph I’m afraid that it won’t get well
Hi! Are you from Manila? Try going to United Doctors Medical Center in Quezon City. It’s in Welcome Rotonda. Look for Dr. Nelson Dy. You can share your story and tell him you suspect it’s HS. He’s my surgeon.
hi TJ! may I know how much yung nagasto mo for the surgery including the skin grafting? I’m planning to have a surgery too. It has been ~4years since I had HS and I want it to be treated already because it’s kinda making me lose my confidence a bit huhu
I am sorry for barging in. I think my body is showing signs of hs like recurrent boils and stretch marks. Can someone refer me to a dermatologist that handle this case? I hope to be diagnosed properly . Cheaper ones if possible cause I am unemployed right now and kinda short on cash. Appreciate any help you could give me. btw i lived in sta cruz manila. I think not all dermatologist knows this disease right? or not? thanks in advance.
hi there, paopao! I feel as though I have HS as well
I’ve been looking for a dermatologist here in Manila that might know more about it but I have had no luck. I even went to this dermatologist who had written an article about it on Philstar but when I came to her and showed her pictures of my past lumps as well and a painful lump that had formed in my underarm , she just dismissed it as some sort of infection. I’ve already had surgery for the lump in my underarm and I wish I didn’t have to get surgery every time a painful lump would grow. It’s so expensive ahhhh!
It’s really tough out here in the Philippines, I don’t really know who to seek help from. If anyone knows any dermatologist or doctor who is knowledgeable with HS, please let me know. I know there is no cure but I just wish I had some sort of hope to maintain or treat it in some way to lessen my flares
I’ve been getting lumps a lot more this pandemic.
Hi there, Peter! did you find any dermatologist yet who could diagnose you? I’m also looking for one right now. I don’t think HS is known by a lot of dermas/doctors here in Manila because I’ve already had several check ups with a few and none of them know what it is or have brought up that it might be HS. They all just tell me it’s an ingrown hair but I know it’s more than that.
@pat626 hi! omg I think we went to a similar doctor in St. Luke’s. But as what happened to you she didn’t diagnose me and just sell me her own medicine. she didn’t even check out my flare closely. I’m also searching for a good dermatology. Mine is getting less by avoiding trigger foods. I’ve been living like this for 19 years since I got my first period.
