Hi I was diagnosed with HSV-1 genitals last month. It has been a horrible time for me accepting this and i feel like my life is over. After researching i found how HSV1 is very common and most people have it without knowing, and symptoms are not likely to reoccur again. however a month later, i think its because my period is coming I have had another outbreak- much more mild. I feel very depressed again, and wondering will this be a monthly thing for the rest of my life. Anybody with HSV-1 genitals? what are your experiences and how often do you have outbreaks? do you take medication daily? Has it changed your life a lot? Thank you

hey there! i got diagnosed with HSV2 a few days ago after having my first outbreak. alot of people will only have about 4-6 outbreaks a year but for those with a vagina, periods are some of many things that can trigger an outbreak. typically people will take the antiviral when theyre having an outbreak or feel one coming on. daily suppressive therapy is an option many people opt for. they will take the antiviral once daily to prevent an outbreak and asymptomatic shedding. this is a common option if youre experiencing outbreaks more than 4-6 a year but its totally optional. i was told to wait out the first year to see how often or if my outbreaks reoccurred before trying daily antivirals but thats a personal decision between you and your doctor. this hasnt affected my life at all besides taking vitamins for outbreaks daily and medicine. I havent had to disclose with a new partner yet so i am sure that will be hard. youre not alone with this and youll be able to work through this and fight the stigma. i wish you the best of luck !!
hey so i was diagnosed with ghsv1 in february and the first two months were hell not gonna lie. i felt like i was having an outbreak back to back and my intial outbreak left a few scars that im hoping will go away. i started antivirals probably 3 days after my outbreak start and i was on the once a day antiviral up until probably a week ago. i was constantly having itchiness and redness up until i stopped taking the antiviral. i dont suggest starting antivirals until 6 months after your initial outbreak to give your immune system some time to get used to the virus. now in may i can say i feel alot better down there. besides the aches in my legs and butt everything feels close to normal down there. im hoping it stays like this for a while
