Pregunta de HTR

had a total hysterectomy when 25.  Now 57 yrs old. Had been on Esterderm until 4 yrs ago when they stopped producing.  Now on Estrodial.  Dr, wants me to gradually wean myself.  Having a hard time understanding why.   Healthy, no medical problems.  And recently woke up with sweats every night, and a flushing feeling in chest heart area.  Went to ER in Houston to be told I needed to go back on my 2 patches a week instead of 1 a week.  Perfect now.  Love my life as it is now.  37 yrs married and having a blast.  Take real good care of myself, lots of compliments, but the fears of being weaned off my patches scares me.  Are there and has anyone experienced side effects of weaning of HTR.  My skin gets dry, headaches, severe. Thank you

Ahora me siento fantástico y he recuperado mi vida.

Hello vanessa. I have just finished weaning myself off HRT. I'm 62 and started taking it in 1991 following a total hysterectomy and oopherectomy (both ovaries). I didn't use the patches but took 2  Hormonin tablets every day. My doctor was very clear I should do it gradually which was easy because the tablets were very easy to break into half. Being able to do it slowly reducing half a tablet every 3-4 weeks has had it's benefits. I had occasional hot flushes and about 3 migraine type headaches (I do occasionally suffer fro migraines) but fingers crossed this is settling down. Obviously everyone is different and has different experiences but doing it gradually lets your body adapt to the reduction in hormones.

Thank y'all for replies.  I can relate to all 3 replies.  The migraine headaches are the worse.  And too would go to my mom and daddy's graves and just cry.   Carole, if you live in U.S. , I can tell you that you can appeal your denial of medication, but challenging them to knowing more about your health than the Dr.  I did, I fought for the 2 patches in written form and was told that as long as I needed them medically I would get them covered.  matron the dr did originally prescribed the pill form as you are able to cut them and gradually wean.  But it was my understanding that the pill form causes clots. My mom passed away from a blood clot and was so terrified of this, so Dr did put me back on my patches.  However, I do try to go a least less days on patches.  Yes, I have to wash my sheets, from night sweats, living south of Houston, it's very humid and hot, ac set at 72, ceiling fan, slept naked a couple of times, and two fans my poor husband purchased just to help me.  Again thank tall for replies, and praying that we all get through this safe.
