Hi everyone,
i just thought I would check in, I am 4 weeks post op today.
Things seem to be going well so far, I have my first session of hydro therapy next week which I am quite looking forward to. As well as having a change of scenery, it will be good to get a bit more advice on how I am progressing.
Has anyone done this and was it useful?

I have had 2 x 6 week sessions of hydrotherapy. I loved every minute of it and gained more from being in the water than from physiotherapy as you are more boyant. My sessions were half an hour each, at first I thought this was a bit short but my it is really very tiring. Make sure you have a drink too as it can be de-hydrating.
I found they were fun, each one of us had something different wrong with us and it was surprising how you helped one another.
Go and enjoy it you will love it I'm sure.
By the way I now just a little over 10 months since my op and feeling great.

Totally agree with Gill, hydrotherapy was the best. After my 6 sessions had finished I, like most people, signed up to use the in patient hydrotherapy pool at open sessions. No PT but a lifeguard. You do the exercises that you have been taught in the 6 weeks. Does not cost much, not sure if it is available everywhere. There is a spinal unit where I go and they use hydrotherapy a lot.
I'd have to pay for a full gym membership just to use the warm therapeutic pool. That's $40/mo and so, guess I'll wait till summer and go to local pool. I know it is good, wish there was easier access to the pool.
Hi L4aura, I am 5 weeks post THR and have been having hydro therapy sessions since 5 days post op. Because I sustained a fracture of the femur during surgery, I have had to be non-weight bearing since my surgery and unable to do physio but hydro has been fine because the water supports your weight so I've done quite a lot of sessions, in 2 different clinics, always only half an hour sessions but it's enough. It has been fantastic! The water is really warm, which helps your muscles relax and and exercises really help with mobility. I can move and stretch a little further each time and feel really invigorated. You will probably feel tired afterwards and should drink lots of water but I am sure you will enjoy it and feel the benefits. Good luck!
