Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for HS?

Hi all,

I'm going to have a surgery to excise HS from armpit and groin, and my plastic surgeon referred me to a wound care specialist for consultation prior to surgery since I cannot have flap closures for the excision...so I'll have open surgical wounds that have to heal and close themselves.  I saw the wound care specialist yesterday, and she strongly suggested having hyperbaric oxygen therapy BEFORE the surgery for six weeks, M-F.  I'm in the States, and she told me hyperbaric oxygen therapy is currently being used to treat HS in Europe and Asia.  She believes it could very well seriously improve my HS lesions...at the very least to make the surgery less invasive and have my vascular system at a better place to heal itself after surgery.

Just wondering if anybody else had heard of this treatment for HS before.

Never heard of it. I'm in the UK and have seen a number of doctors, not one has ever mentioned this treatment. I'd get evidence of where this therapy is used, how often, and how successful it has been if I was you, then research those stats yourself. Good luck with the surgery though!

Hi Beth,  you obviously researched HS well and know that surgery does not always help.... I unfortunately do not know of this treatment, but I want to say that doctors should stop looking to send us for expensive treatments and rather concentrate on a cure. We cure some cancers for pete sake. I think doctors nowadays just look for ways to line their pockets. Sorry...venting a bit on your thread.
