Hyperthyroidism

I am 28yrs. Had Hyper-Thyroidism since I was 17yrs old (well diagonised at that age). I have been on Neomercazole for that entire time and it was only meant to be a 2 year medication. I have moved around alot and haven't had a chance to do something about my thyriod. It cannot fuction on it's own without the medication. If I go off the meds My T4 and T3 sky rockets. Yet I have been having some weird stuff happening of late which makes me think I need to be getting my levels tested and my thyroid actually removed or killed. I have been getting really itching, hot flushes when everyone else is cold, starving hungry all the time (like i eat and then I am hungry again), tired all the time but I have Fibro as well so it can also be that for the tired and I can't stop pulling things off from around my neck like if my shirt or jump rides up too much.

I don't normally eat much at all and unfortunatly I am one of "those" ones with hyperthyriodism that is still fat even before the meds maybe the fibro accounts for that or not I am not sure. But it appears all the signs ans symptoms from which I was first diagnosied have been coming back but a little on the worse side. I have made a doctors appointment for next week to get him to do the blood work and also ask for a ultra sound on it to see if there is anything happening, I suppose I am just wondering if anyone else have experienced a whole new batch of "the usual" warning signs and symptoms after being medicated?

Thanks for any responses.

Hi Andromeda.I think you're doing the right thing by asking for a retest and scan. This should be done regularly especially if you have your original symptoms returning.I see my specialist every six months and we discuss the blood results.Sometimes I have to change the dose of my medication depending on the results. It sounds as if you will have to increase the dose but wait until you get your results.I can usually tell when my weight changes up or down.Hope you get the answer to your symptoms soon but make sure you arrange to see your doctor more regularly.Best wishes Nonita

I also see my Endo at least every 6 months and get blood work done.  I also get blood work done in between by my family doc.  My recent TSH was .51 which although in the normal range for my lab, is heading towards the low side, so I am going to restart supplements that helped me like L-Carnitine that I will take along with my anti-thyroid med.  I do not have any adverse physical symptoms but I do know that for me, I have to stay on top of my lab results and symptoms to feel good.
