I was operated on March 3 2018 hip dynamic screw for neck femur fracture. After 6 weeks non weight bearing i visited for my Doctor. New X ray done and he told good and you can do partial weight bearing but he didnt tell me how many percentage it takes one month i have also friend physiotherapist he told me one week 20 percent then gradually increase i did also some leg exercises t strengthen the muscle then after 2.5 months next appointment x ray done and Dr. Told one screw came out and possible collapse and he told me another one month partial weight bearing 20 percent why dynamic hip screw is not stable? Now my problem is my work after 3 months no salary so im planning to resign because of this. Its frustrating that some i heard early weight bearing for dynamic hip scew and everything fine.
I think it’s important to do your best to be patient after a neck of femur fracture.
(Remember that most posts on this forum are elective hip replacements, so the whole process is somewhat different.)
I am learning the hard way: also had neck of femur fracture, in several places. Mine was an IM Nail repair...basically a metal rod through the femur, screwed in at the hip and at the knee. I am sixteen weeks post op, and still using two crutches.
I am doing the Physio recommmended exercises religiously, and progress seems very very slow.
i suggest you get as much advice from doctor and Physio as you can, and follow their advice. Good luck.
I had the same break, had DHS on 17 April so four weeks tomorrow. I’ve been weight bearing since getting up on the Zimmer frame at about 7 days post op. Where you told explicitly not to put weight on the operated hip? I was told I must gradually put weight on it to gain muscle back and normal gait. I still have some burning pain in my thigh, but I presume this is normal due to the nature of the op - cutting through nerve and muscle and drilling bone takes a while to get back to normal. I have a follow up appointment in a few weeks but I hope to be walking a lot better. On two crutches outside and one inside. Doing exercises like marching on the spot, the usual ones physio tell you to do. Main issue I have is flexibility of the knee, can’t bend back a lot but that is improving daily, albeit slowly. I’m agency staff and am only entitled to ssp, still waiting for that to be sorted though. It sounds as though you’ve been really unlucky. I hope it all gets sorted for you. Vanessa
