Tengo miedo a los dentistas debido a un mal incidente con ellos cuando era niño.

When I was a child I had a bad incident at the dentists when I had to be put under anaesthetic for a very painful tooth. I didn't go to a dentist for ages. I had a wisdom tooth out at the age of 23 which included a local where I was sent home with my tooth dripping in blood and the dentist wasn't very good with manners. I've left my teeth for ages and one of them is cracked after eating some toffees and I'm stressed. Has any body any suggestions?

When you go to the Dentist, discuss possible referral to Dental Hospital re Sedation.

Need to find a nice pleasant understanding dentist willing to listen and help you. Most are very nice best to ask around, research them.

Hi again Many dentiists now have relaxation tapes playing in their surgeries or relaxing music, this goes a long way to helping you.  Are u in the UK? If so ring the Dental hospital nearest to you.

Hi you can ask for a phobia dentist and it's true cos I went to one.  Good luck

Hi Rachel, dental treatments will have advanced since you were a child and won’t be as bad as your childhood experiences. If you are that worried, do your research online and look for a dentist with good customer ratings. If you are in the UK, try looking into private treatment as that may be able to reassure you that you are getting a dedicated service. Not trying to knock the NHS but things move quicker in the private sector! Sorry you’ve had bad experiences with it. You will have a consultation before any treatment is suggested so talk through your fears with them and see what the best course of treatment is for you. Fear of dentists is so common that they will know what to do in these cases. Let us know how you get on.

I understand not liking the dentist at all. I would suggest you call around and find one that works with people like yourself, someone who is trained to handle people with dentist anxiety. Explain your situation and what you went through, they might be able to make you feel more comfortable if you are able to go in and meet with the dentist first and talk to him/her about your bad experiences.
