I damaged my front ankle ligament and i need some answers to questions, please help

Hi there, i am a reserve football player for Livingston FC in Scotland and i am 16 years old. 3 weeks ago i damaged my front ligament. The doctor said it would tale about 2-3 weeks to recover. It has been just over 3 weeks and i played my first game yesterday and have a reserve game tommorow but it still hurts. It mainly hurts around the ankle and above it rather than the ankle itself. It hurts slightly and i cant run comfortably. Should i just try and fight through the pain until it goes away or should i say i cant play or something

Thanks for any help provided

I am 4 and a bit months post brostrum due to major ankle injury a couple of years ago so accept my advice is biased against pain, so

sorry to sound like your mother but pain is a signal to stop

go back and see your doctor it will heal quicker with gentler excercise

Ok, i am going to see the club physio, thanks for the help

Hi Ross

I wouldn't risk it, I would see your doctor and ask him/her what you should do and tell them that you're still experiencing pain and swelling.  I'm assuming that physio might be your best way forward.  You don't want to cause further damage or irreparable damage.  I read on these forums somewhere that their tendon damage needed an operation.  I would check this out before trying to play, it seems too soon by the way you're describing it.

Good luck
