I have just had a posterior vaginal prolapse repair ( sacropolpopexy).

I have been prescribed 2- 500+30 cocodomol pain relief, but trying to cut down on the codeine now I am home as I haven't opened my bowells yet - day 3. I have taken 2senna, 3 sachets of movicol and 2 aloe Vera tablets over the course of yesterday also prunes and apricots but nothing so far except excruciating wind, which was helped with peppermint tea. I know when it happens it will be painfully :-( Any advice from people who have been through similar would be appreciated...

Hi LesleyW

I was in agony for 4 or 5 days following my posterior/anterior prolapse repairs and tightening of the perineum - done last October (2013). Rang the practice nurse at my GP's surgery in tears, who advised me to continue with fresh fruits, All Bran etc but to also sit in a bowl of warm water placed over the toilet pan and gently introduce your finger into the rectum to ease a little at a time some of the faecal matter out. It worked! The next day everything began to work normally. Sorry if this sounds messy but for me it was such a relief.

Best wishes, Lady Pink

Thank you so much for reply and this advice. I will try it! I am at the moment dippong wholemeal bread into olive oil and balsamic vineger and about to drink the remaining oil with some veggie juice - somethings got to happen soon. Lol

Update. Did as you suggested LadyPink. Amazing. It worked a treat. Passed a disposable stitch as well...not sure if that will be a problem as only on day 3, but I am delighted and can't thank you enough. Feel much better - bout a stone lighter tee hee :-)' thanks again. So glad I found this forum, more help than my nurses.

Looks like I posted a reply to myself instead of you...it worked a treat. Amazing, so grateful for you advice and so glad I found this forum. Thanks again, you're a star.

I used gel suppositories from Boots on Day 4 and just waited! It wasn't as bad as I expected. What I have learned since is: 1) NO STRAINING, just wait; 2) blow out little breaths through your mouth ~ apparently that opens up down below; 3) rest your feet on something so your knees are higher than your hips ~ Amazon sell a Squatty Potty! but the children's grow tall step does fine.

Hi Lesley

Brilliant to hear the good news!  Don't forget from now on to make sure you have plenty of roughage and fruit in your diet AND to also drink plenty of water regularly - otherwise stools can get dry and begin to harden which makes everything back-up and block. Horrible subject I know, but we have to be honest with each other don't we? Ha Ha

Best wishes for your continued recovery and TAKE IT EASY no heavy lifting, heavy housework, hoovering etc not for 8-10 weeks and then only do what is comfortable.

It's worth it in the end. I am ticket-boo now and back to normal in EVERY way!!!

Pink Lady

Thanks for reply and Moira your's too. Its good to know others have experienced similar... phoned my ward nurse who said it probably wasnt a stitch, more likely to be a bit of debris op as too thick to be a stitch. Lovely. Very tired today but taking it easy. Fortunately at 67 my children are grown up and all on holiday with grandkids so no childminding for at least 6 weeks and then only school run for 11yr old. Timed it just right for op.

Thanks Moira. Problem sorted and no straining.

Ooh yes and off codeie now and coping with paracetamol and ibuprofen - as long as I double up on ranitidine I can manage a few NSAIDS so should be a lot bettrr poo wise tee hee.

Oh my goodness Lesley You will never be off the toilet when that lot starts working!! I was advised to take just Paracetemol for my pain I had my Prolapse Repair done 17 days ago.    Years ago I was prescribed Cocodomol when I had chronic Diaroea so obviously they would cause constipation. I can't tell you to take Paracetamol but only say I havent suffered from  Constipation at all since I've been taking them. Good Luck anyway. Polly

Oh I have just seen that Moira has sorted you out Thats good. All the best Polly

Well said Lady Pink. I am learning all the time fro you and Moira     . Polly

Me too Lesley so glad I found this Forum

Used a washing bowl as a step and what a difference. I've just ordered a squattypotty from Amazon so no stopping me now. What a godsend this forum is. I have also just found the other thread on this topic and enjoying learning about other people's experiences and. Tips.

Hi Polly, I could not have managed first 2days without the morphine and codeine.dont think paracetamol would have touched the pain. They gave me Tramodol too which made me violently sick ' never again!. Day 4 now and So much better just on paracetamol and ibuprofen..

are feeling more normal 17 day on?

Glad to hear your feeling better Lesley. I must have been very lucky I never had any pain that I know of unless the drips and tablets I had in Hospital for 3 days killed the pain. I was told not to take Ibuprofen as it has Asprin in and made my bleeding heavier. Good Luck now and take it easy. Polly
