I'm 15 and I have Fibromyalgia

After months and months, my doctor confirmed that i had fibromyalgia. Im only 15, and some days i can even tie my shoes without piercing pain. The cold lately has been absolutely terrible. Im afraid.

I am sorry that just happened with the reply, had to shutdown my computer! I can't imagine having it from the age of 15.Did you have a accident or surgery? I pretty much have the pain under control but I still have pain in between and I hate when I get the deep muscular pain in my arms, shoulders etc.. The doctors think it's something else now after 4 plus years. Loosing my trust in dr's.

Hello you,

Bless you, what a horrible thing to happen at your age! I can't really offer you anything positive, just my experience and I am 58years old! Find something that helps you sleep - very important. Hopefully it will help with the pain as well. I take Amitriptylene. More importantly - pace yourself. Don't beat yourself up if you can't achieve what you would expect to - things have changed - small steps! Good luck and take care, Anne

Thank you Anne, i think that the worst part is that I'm afraid that i wont be able to do the things that i used to. And I'll be sure to take your advice. I'll try not to beat myself up.

I've had four surgeries in my eyes, the last one failed leaving me partially color blind. The pain is especially bad when it is deep in my shoulders.

Just make sure you keep track of records and take one day at a time and don't be afraid because that doesn't help anxiety. I will pray for you, I hope that is okay.

Awww sweetheart I feel for you im 49 and it's taken over my life bless uou xxx💖💖💖

Hi all be warned I took co-codomal 35mg tablets yesterday ended up collapsing and having a fit ended up in Hospitail so be carefull when taking painkillers xx

Hi

I'm sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia at 15, I'm sorry you are afraid. It took me nearly 20 years before I got mine and I learnt it is only a name, how you feel is still the same, but now you can tell people and get more care. Because my diagnosis took so long I learnt how to deal with it in different ways, I hope this helps: there's a good saying I've got fibromyalgia but it hasn't got me, have this in your mind, I have cried with the pain or exhaustion, or mind fog but I only allow myself a little time and then say that's it now, lets  sort myself out! Learn to pace yourself, if you are doing something in the week, have a quiet weekend, tell your school so they can support you, keep warm; gloves, thermals and heat pads are wonderful, laugh as mush as you can, the endorphins will help.

Sorry hadn't finished. I'm a full time teacher and a mum, I just have to pace myself and be careful. I knew a girl who was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, she went to university and is now working. Everyone is different, just try and keep positive and try not to worry, the stress will not help. Most of all be kind to yourself. Sending you a big gentle hug.

Hi Harvest don't be afraid.  I've personally been where you are now, at your age and have gone on to achieve alot.  Looking back I've had Fibro / ME/Cfs since I was at least 14, maybe younger.  I'm now 36.  I've been to Uni, got my degree, have a very loving husband and 2 wonderful children.  I'm self-employed now and have a very enjoyable part-time career as an Architect.

Looking back the extreme pain and struggling to do stuff was in phases.  For me not in months but in years.  However, everyone is different.  I know I've lived with pain every single day of my life back since I was 14 ish, almost constantly.  You learn to measure levels of pain, so that you don't notice it unless it is at a high level.

There is a forum for young people with Fibro.  I'd recommend checking that out because others the same age as you can recommend ways that they are coping.  Can't remember the name but I know you can find it on google.

Don't be afraid and I'd recommend not focusing on the long term right now.  The future will come and you will cope with it.  Be a young person and don't think too far ahead.  However don't forget you haven't quite got as much energy as your friends, so try not to keep 'boom and busting' cos it's fustrating when you bustwinkx

your to young to be drugged up on meds for the rest of your life hun [ by the way did you have the injection for the prevention of cervicle cancer that they give girls now]

theres alot of girls that have had that injection that have conditions like fibromialgia

lots on you tube about it .

in america fit girls cheer leaders and athleets have been brought down to being unable to do anything soon after the injection.

Anne how long have you had Fibro and what are your symptoms.  They think I have something different now. Going for new MRI tonight. So frustrating. I try for SSDI today! What do you think I have had all tender points that a Fibro patient has! Thanks

First, Im so sorry you have to deal with this at such a young age.

Don't be afraid. It will not kill you. And you do have some control over how bad your symptoms get. Fear and stress are our imaginations making up worst case scenarios. Our dreams are imagination too. Think of it like that. How silly would it be to live your life in fear of every dream you have? It's just as silly to fear every thought you have.

I PROMISE, If you can learn how to manage your stresses and fears your battle is half won.

Now, think of some THING or gift you would do almost anything to get. How creative would you be to get it? Now imagine that THING is a healthy life.

If you have a problem, find a solution. Wear extra clothes, use extra blankets. Stretch a LOT. Decide to be happy no matter what. It IS a decision.

You're young so I would suggest taking warm baths and drinking tea. Black or green tea during the day. Chamomile or some calming tea at night. Sugar makes it worse, by the way. I don't know why, but it does.

When you have a symptom, type in your browser "Natural Way To Treat (insert symptom)".

You or your parents are welcome to private message me if you have any questions. I am willing to help.

Oh sweetie I can't believe you have been diagnosed with this at such a young age. I know how painful this can get and most days I'm just soo down with it. I ordered my self a Tens machine this week and I'm sure with a lot of adjusting I will get to a comfortable setting on it. I also bought a gel called Devils Claw. Try and get it if you can in a health food shop. I've tried it a couple of nights and so far it has been a little helpful. My doctor has recently put me on Amitryptilyne but they were making things worse is I've stopped them. They say exercise works but for me I find that doing things aggravates pain and then doing nothing the same so it's just a case of trying to find that middle. Muscle creams, cold patches, sitting in a hot bath for a while. I would also recommend you get a second even third opinion because it is extremely rare for a female of your age to be affected by this disease. I hope I have helped. Sending love and hugs to you. X

you have sent this to the wrong person hun

Very good advice.

Thank you!
