i really am confused

Hi when i went to see the chest consultant a few weeks ago he said with the Bronchiectasis i have which he said was very very mild he said that i should not get many symptoms , but yesterday i had a horrible pain under my rib cage and the pain went all across my back i felt awful i had to go to bed today it has eased off a little still a little niggly i took some pain releif which did help a little . i honestly dont think my Doctor really know much about Bronchiectasis i just get told it's anxiety but the way the pain was i dont believe one minute anxiety had anything to do with it .

Hi Jayne sorry you have been in so muc pain I know what you mean about the docs they dont realy know a lot about bronchiectasis. feel better soon can I ask do you get low saturation  levels

No not really Joyce the only trouble is that i am much overweight which i know it does not help so im trying to lose some weight .

Hi Jayne, sorry you are having so much pain. I too have mild bronchiectasis but however mild it is, it can still cause severe symptoms when an infection is present. I have had chest infections where pain was the only symptom & I have needed antibiotics to clear it up. Hope that helps.

Thank you if it continue i will go to my Doctor .

Hi Jayne,

I heard different opinions about pain related with our issue. Some says that the pain on the lungs is felt only on the external "cover". So, it should not be related with the usual inflamations we have. If you have pain I would ask if something else is going on.

Sometimes our preoccupation make us feeling everything that we have on our bodies related wiith the lungs problem. Sometimes back pain can be caused by the stomach. But, asking to a doctor would be the best solution.

Thank you Robert for your message i'm very much appreciated .

Hi Jayne,

I don't know what a chest consult is. Do you mean a lungspecialist? Because he should know where the pain comes from..... I remember in the beginning, when I had mild broncoectasis I did'nt feel any pain or breathing problems.....

Hi Jayne, I get chest & back pain everyday with my bronchiectasis & I was told by the doctor at the respiratory clinic this is normal, it's something I will have to get used to. I find if I lay down on the bed with a hot water bottle either on my back or chest the heat can sometimes help. It doesn't mean I have an infection in my lungs but they are just playing up. My GP has said to give a sputum sample if it gets bad just to rule out an infection tho. It's not nice & does make the day drag but I suppose you've just got to carry on I suppose. Hope this helps.

Thank you Dave i will try that with the hot water bottle , i just cannot get my head around this Bronchiectasis . i know that i need to lose some weight as that does not help being overweight  , i dont get much Sputum which i'm glad of i dont know if it will get worse as i age ... all the best to you enjoy your weekend .

i think you should be seeing a doctor about your pain does not sound like sress. Have you not seen a consultant yet if not i would say you need to see one for yourown peace of mind

Hi yes I have seen a private consultant when he look at my ct scan picture he said it was so mild I should not get any symptoms I have had no cough I do get a little sputum not enough to trouble me but I just get this terrible pain sometimes I have a little trouble with my breathing especially when I'm lying down , I'm going to make a appointment with my doctor thank you for your reply .

Hi Christiann yes it was a chest specialist I see . Do you get any symptoms now .

Hello Jayne,

When I feel the pain you described you felt, I know there is a infection going on....normally you are not supposed to feel any pain. Maybe a heavy feeling from time to time because of the mucus in your lungs. But draining should help.... Hope you feel much better now!

Its a horrible thing this bronchiectasis Jayne but it's something we have to live with I'm afraid. I suppose in time we will find a way to carry on with normal life & we should be grateful for what we have with life really. There's always someone else worse off than us.  Hope you start to feel better soon Jayne, keep smiling & laughing & don't give up :-).

Thank you Dave , yes your right there is people worse off than us so really we should be grateful . it's just hard to take in at the moment but hopefully i can get my head around it . thanks for your kind words

Hi Jayne, if you have been coughing a lot, it is possible that you have inflamed the cartilage which joins the ribs together. Nothing you can do but rest and take painkillers.  Bronchiectasis R Us is a great website for Bronch sufferers and has forums and advice on every aspect of the disease.  Key is to minimise the number of chest infections you get, avoid stress and getting over-tired, and walk or exercise as much as you can.  If you are producing sputum, it is essential you see a physiotherapist to learn how to clear your chest of the stuff effectively.

Hi read your reply to jayne24241. and found your information very intersting.  Going to look at Bronchiectasis R Us now

Hi columbine, I sometimes get pain around my ribs when I inhale, it is during or after an infection, so when I have been coughing a lot. A friend said this was pluresy. Is that what you are talking

about?
