I suffer with severe anxiety, currently taking sertraline but scared it's not working?

I was on sertraline back last year and felt great on 100mg, I wheened off back last June, but my anxiety returned with the vegence! I am now back on sertraline, started with 50mg for four weeks, then 100mg which I've been on for a week now. I'm still not feeling better, and I can remember the last time I felt better very quickly. How long will it take for it work again? I have a holiday coming up in June and I'm so scared that I'll still feel like this then! How will I cope with anxiety abroad?sad

Maybe you will be happy being away and not have anxiety. Plus June is a couple months of. Try getting your doc to up your dose 2/3 weeks before you go. By then you will be confident of not having one. If you need to talk come on here 😃

It is interesting because I have a similar experience. I was on zoloft for about 15 years and weaned off very slowly over a two year period. After a month off of it, my anxiety came back with a vengence as well. I am on 125mg of zoloft for two months now and I am still not feeling my best. I to remember it not taking this long to feel much better. I am still trying to figure mine out. I will keep you updated on mine. You can discuss your concern with your doctor. Everyone is different and I hope you start to feel good soon.

I don't mean to send negative but in my experience drugs don't 'cure' anxiety. Sure they certainly help take the edge of the symptoms and can make you feel less crappy but they don't change your thought processes. Personally I've never seen them as the cure all. I was off drugs for two years and I was fine. My anxiety returned after a bereavement and difficult times and I've started them again too help. Also when I was on meds before I still had panic attacks.

Granted everyone is different to their response to meds but I thinks it worth not solely depending on them to help recover from anxiety it's best to use therapy, self help, meditation, exercise etc as well.

I wouldn't personally expect drugs to perform miracles...

I am getting therapy aswell, I started with one counsellor but it didn't work, now with a new one, only had 3 sessions far and I don't know how long it would take for that to work? I hit rock bottom with it and need something to help while I'm getting therapy

Thanks for your reply It's a small comfort to know I'm not the only one! I think I will give it another couple of weeks and then go back, I wondered if your body gets immune when you've used them before 😒 I've heard citalopram working for a lot of people so that's another option to try I guess! It's an awful feeling when I'm having a really bad day with it as I just feel like it's never gonna end! I hope we both get the help we need soon!x
