I work in a nursing home,and it's getting to me.HELP

I work in a nursing home and I love looking after the old however I'm 17 and seeing how it changes and effects them especially dementia and other sorts of illnesses like that ,I know I'm young but I can't shake the fear of getting them especially as there are no cures and how many people get it

Hey asya,

I am 19 and i know how this feels, your brain just wants something to focus and obsesse over. Believe It or not everyone has these worries.  You’re 17, you have a LONG time till you should be worried about this and a lot of it is genetic. You’re fine and too young to be worrying about this. Everyone has fears but don’t be so caught up on it, just relax and enjoy life.

Resign from the job. Anxiety will consume you.

Asya

Two family members have suffered a dementia and sad to say this problem is becoming more and more problematic. In fact I just went through five weeks of tests to prove my thought process was not caused by dementia, it was eventually put down to a Chronic Short Term Memory Problem, from childhood. So I consider myself lucky, even though someone can talk to me about something and I can forget what was said soon afterwards.

I do know at seventeen how you feel  when you see this death of a thousand, mean and horrible cuts with patients who several years ago  so vital and with it, all around them All I can suggest is you try and find out their past interests and about family members. If you can get activities arranged like singsongs or even bingo this can be helpful in these people remembering past activities, including holidays. You may be  suprised  in how they react.

None of us knows what is going to happen to us, all we can do is move on as well as possible, there is a great deal of negativity, although you may find or see some  activities that will help.

In the past I always looked on the caring of someone with these complaints a positive activity.
