IBS, anxious all the time

Hey, I was diagnosed with IBS a few months ago and have been suffering for a year. I get stomach attacks where I need to get to the toilet in minutes with diarrhoea. This has made me a nervous wreck. Whenever I am anywhere without a toilet I panic and am anxious the whole time. It's effecting my day to day life and Im now really scared to go out with friends and people are starting to notice I m not going out much. I really don't know what to do I'm on peppermint oil capsules but still get the attacks maybe once a week. But it's the not knowing when it's going to occur that kills me. There is also no link to any foods that I've eaten. It's effecting me a lot mentally and I feel like I have no where to turn. Any help would be great thanks

Hi Jack,

Do not know what your food intake is, but check out fodmap diet, have been doing it for nearly 2 years, it halved my irritable bowel issues. You do not eat foods which will make you bloat and upset your stomach. Hard to start with but we'll worth trying it. I TAKE buscopan which really helps A lot. Your best to see doctor, take in some notes on how you have been as you can easily forget what you want to ask. If the attacks are unbearable ring 111, that's if you as 're in UK.

Im awaitin investigations to rule out other conditions but the gp feels ihave an IBS picture. 

I too have the same problem as yourself,  i cant seem to find a link to foods and i dare pass wind in case something else happens. Idont seem to have a particulary painful stomach - which most people on here seem to have.

My worry is just how watery my stools are - some times i go to the toilet and the first thing that happens is that i pass watery stools with what seems like no effort at all - not sure if thats normal for IBS?!

Hey thanks for the reply have had an ok week but doesn't mean I'm not thinking about it 24/7 ! Think I may give the fodmap diet a go, it's just really hard to cook all different meals than your family ! Think i have to try tho smile how you ?

If you can cook up some stuff that you all can eat, then just add extras for the family. My main meal could be chicken, spuds, green beans and carrots. Alternate it with a little pork. You will find a way around it. Small meals help. If can help let me know.

Thanks, I'm going on holiday in 2 weeks and will have a 4 hr bus journey when I arrive with no toilets anywhere ! Really anxious about it,  do you know of anything that you can take before hand to make my stomach do nothing for 4 hours !! 😁 

If you cut back on food 24 hours before trip, less in less to come out. You could ask your doctor or Pop into a chemist and they may be able to recommend something to take. But realize that you also do not want to get constipated from not going. It's not easy I know. Does the bus not have a toilet on board? Only other suggestion is to ring the bus company explaining your situation as o that they can have a toilet stop.
