Does anyone know if medication can cause IBS, notably antidepressants, antibiotics and Omeprazole (PPI)?
Can these medications cause IBS as a chronic condition, or is it more that their side-effects can mimic the symptoms of IBS?
I'm sure medications can trigger ibs symptoms but if it's truly the cause, they should subside once medications are stopped. If these persist without medications than that could point to an actual case of ibs.
I had just acid reflux ( I think ) - but after taking opep ppi it shifted to what d say was ibs so I stopped taking them , it's two weeks now and still have ibs
Medication will not cause IBS, but lots of medications can have digestive side effects.
Antibiotics are well known for causing stomach pain/cramp/diarrhoea.
