Hello everyone!
After a few months of very unpredictable bowel movements I consulted my GP
I told her that I have been suffering from bloating, constipation, stomach growling, wind etc followed by a sudden urge to use the toilet at the most inconvenient of times (driving to work, in the pub etc)
She prescribed me Mebeverine tables & said it sounded like I had IBS
After taking these tables for the full course things were good for a few months until it flared up again. I have been back this week & have been prescribed “COLOFAC” which doesn’t appear to be working?
The symptoms this time are a lot like the first, coupled with a ‘warm’ sensation under my lower left rib and back ache just above my bum, surely this is not normal?
As she pointed out tests, or a camera wouldn’t specifically identify is as IBS but might be the route to take in the future.
My father was killed by my local hospital through neglect after having surgery for Bowel Cancer, so obviously this scares the hell out of me, more so as I am a 29 year old male
The first time I suffered this was due to the fact we were in court to do with the above & I put this down to severe anxiety, as the doctor did
There is no blood in my stools?
I have tried fruit, fibre to no avail & have not changed my diet or foods in the past 10 years?
I am puzlled?
Addition - When I do go, I end up with an empty feeling which leaves me hungry, then when I eat I feel bloated
I can often go a full week without going, sometimes longer, then when I do its not a pleasant experience
No its not normal, next time you see your GP say you wouldnt mind having a gastroscopy (stomach cam). I hear what you are saying about the vacuum / hungry feeling afterwards, you could do with some more mebeverine
I bet youve had some rock hard black bullet poos? :D
The opposite if anything, they are usually not solid at all
Ah right, well thats better for you than my guess was. Extra fibre (a few fruits a day) might help to thicken you up, keep your fluids topped up
If your GP is making positive noises about you having a colonoscopy and or gastroscopy Id go for it, from the way you say you feel I think youll be surprised by what they discover, no not in a bad news way just in a interesting way
I've decided to finish this course of tablets, then make a decision of what to do next
After 4 days of taking them i am still pretty much the same, bloated and 'gassy'
My GP gives me Merbentyl for all those phantom gas, cramping and extreme needing the loo feelings and it works really well
UPDATE –
I went back to my Doctor last week, for two reasons
1) The Colofac tables didn’t seem to be working
2) I have developed a pain in the left side of my stomach, above my pelvis and a pain in my left side (which I thought could be a Kidney infection, apparently not)
My Doctor asked me to provide Blood & Urine samples (Urine as he suspects a UTI infection) & has booked my in to have a camera in my nether region!
The first, last and only time something will be going anywhere near my bum!
He also prescribed Fybergel Mebeverine which appears to be slowly working, the pain is still there & occasionally spans across my stomach
I am worried, but I would rather know what’s going on! As I can’t go on like this
A colonoscopy isnt the most pleasant of experiences but itll get to the bottom of your pains and cramping :D

I truly hope so
hey your symptoms sound exactly the same as mine, like exactly, doctor first thought i had a kidney infection which turned out to be wrong and now has prescribed me with mebeverine foe ibs?
i hope we both get it fixed!
Hi Guys,
Pls anyone help me out.
I am having the same problem.
I am scared to go out nowadays. If i go out and have some thing, am really searching for a bath room ...
My doctor prescribed MEBAVARINE for me ... will this work ?
Is it before or afetr food ?
Wot about the diet ?
Many Thanks
Maybe you should read the prescription! Too many people think that just because a drug is working, it'll work better if you take more! How stupid is that! Take more, and it could kill you!!!
Your GP should have explained when to take the medication. The enclosed patient care leaflet will tell you when to take the medication - in the case of Mebeverine 135mg, it's three times per day, about 20 minutes before a meal.
'Colofac' is another name for mebeverine hydrochloride - it's exactly the same stuff in every way!
It never ceases to amaze me the number of folks willing to put their life on the line, misusing scripted drugs, just because they think that they work, therefore more of them will work better! Er... HELLO... no! Actually more of them can KILL!!!
Let's all get a life, and take medication as per the prescription, eh? You know it makes sense!
