IBS - nausées terribles - aidez-moi !!

Hi,

Can anyone help me.. I'm 27 years old and been suffering for 2 and a half years with horrendous nausea and loose bowels. I've had so many tests done in hospital and nothing has showed up. So doctors are just saying maybe it's IBS.

I'm still struggling to work out what I am eating. I've had a really bad flare up just a few days ago and I struggle to eat with the nausea so severe. I hate how much it affects my life.

I've kept food diaries and think tomatoes are an issue but think something else is causing it too. I think I can eat tomatoes based things in small portions and very spread out.

Can anyone recommend any help I could get to try get to solve this? Or any websites that could give me ideas of usual foods that are issues?

Also any gut/bowel cleansing products that may help clean out any bad bacteria please?

Thanks!!

Hi, have you ever considered the low FODMAP diet? I’m on it at the moment and it does seem to help. After 2 months, you can start to re-introduce ‘banned’ foods again, one at a time, to help weed out the foods which are causing you problems.

Hi Fiona,

Thank you for your reply. I had tried this before but I maybe didn't stick to it long enough. I'm really underweight with this and it's a lot of foods to cut out at the beginning. However I think in the long term, looking at it, it's probably worth it to stop feeling sick all the time!

I'll look it up again now. Thanks and I hope things continue to go well for you

Hi Elle. Having read your post and replies, I think you need testing for coeliac disease, this can cause you to lose lots of weight. Hope your doctors get to the bottom of this, oh no sorry about the pun!

Try the Low Fodmap diet.  Do you have shifting abdominal pain? If nothing shows up on tests, doctors will diagnose IBS.  Try Imodium for loose stools/diarrhoea.

Sickness is not an uncommon symptom for me but I am never sick just on its own, it is  always after an attack. I am used it now but still frustrating. Also can knock my appetite out for the day.

Hi Elle,

i know now what you mean, I have Coeliac disease as well as IBS, also I’m intolerant to all dairy, so my diet is already restricted. I dug my heels in when a dietitian suggested it to me as I thought it would be very limiting. However my symptoms got a lot worse and I had no choice but to try it.  I have about 2 more weeks to go before I can start to re-introduce foods, and have found the diet very helpful with my condition and I’m pleased I tried it now.

Have you had an endoscopy? Nausea is usually related to stomach acid and gastric emptying. You can get over the counter nausea tablets quite easily from the pharmacy. Also try antacids- I find liquid works best for nausea.

Mint or ginger tea is also good.

Hi, you could try multi strain probiotics, as strong as possible, good bacteria (Probiotics) willl keep bad bacteria under control, Chia seeds are full of fibre, if you put a couple of tablespoons full into 200 mils of water leave for an hour or two, it will go all glutinous add some juice for taste stir well and drink.

Hi Sam, thanks for your reply. I got tested for celiac a few years ago and it was negative.

However I will still keep at my doctors!!

Oh is it not. You always hear of nausea not being a main symptom but I guess there are a lot of us who do suffer it.

I am the same as you. Feel really sick, sometimes feel like i am going to be as it's so overwhelming but never am! Severe episodes can knock me for days too!

Hi, thank you for your reply.

Yes they done an endoscopy a year ago which showed nothing.

I have got ondansetron for the nausea as it's the only tablet that helps. I've had over the counter ones plus numerous ones prescribed too. Ginger tea is good, I have found that to help.

Hi Martin, Thank you for your reply.

I haven't heard of those probiotics so I will definitely check them out. Plus chia seeds, I have eaten them in the past. Anything is worth a try!!

Hi, thank you for your reply.

I don't have abdominal pain. I've tried Imodium but I feel better if I actually empty my bowels when I have flare ups rather than not go.

I will look into the diet. Thanks!

That's a shame you have a lot of foods you need to cut out. Must be difficult.

I'm glad the diet is helping you but! Hopefully the culprit causing you issues is soon revealed too!!

You probably need more tests from your doctor.  You may not have IBS if you don’t have abdominal pain  Last year I had an IBS D attack and had to take Imodium because the diarrhoea went on for three days and wasn’t stopping.

Thank you, yes, me too. I do think you may benefit from it, it’s certainly worth a try and you will find out within a short time if it’s the same for you.

That sounded awful for you.

I have had a lot of tests done in hospital but nothing showed up. I think it's more me who's saying I think I have IBS as not sure what other tests can be done.

I just have no clue what I am eating that is causing it. I think it is two foods, Cut them out but still get little flare ups. So looking right into all ingredients in foods. It's just so hard. I wish there was a place out there that helped!

After saying my illness is more intermittent after being ill only a few weeks ago and thinking I was good for 6 months guess what I had a repeat today, only something very unusual happened. I was ill from about 8 until midday and if I am going to be sick it usually happens around this time. Went back to bed for a few hours and usually after this I feel better. I still felt tired but I could move about and just started the washing up at 4pm and I was sick. That delay was the longest I have had and screwed me up a little as wide awake at bed time.

What tests have you had done?  I had an ultrasound, stool tests for fecal caprotectin and h pylori, a urine test and celiac test. Everything was negative so I was diagnosed with IBS.  The best person to go to for help is your doctor.  I had to go eight times to various doctors but I got answers in the end.

Have you tried a food diary? Have a look at the Low Fodmap diet.
