I generally have a lot of moles on my body. I’ve had many since childhood so I don’t even worry about them. I occasionally notice new ones. A year ago, I noticed a stange new mole on my stomach, darker than rest. It was 6mm. I didn’t have time or energy to go to dermatologist at the time. I observed it for a year and it didn’t grow or changed but I finally went to a dermatologist. She said my other moles were fine but the one on my stomach needed to be removed. Nothing’s happening yet but it;s not a single color and has some potrusions. She gave me refferal to surgeon. Of course I’ll go. I don’t want to create scenarios in my head and I know no one will give me a definite answers but has anyone experienced similar situation? If a mole hasn’t grown in a year could it be cancer or should I just not worry about it? I’m angry with myself for putting it off for w ahole year. I’m 27 years old. Thank you for every answer.
I know it’s so easy to say try not to worry to much, but do try not to upset yourself until you have a definitive answer. Even if it did turn out to be malignant, there are many things that can be done now, with new treatments and trials coming up all the time. Of course, it may also be absolutely fine! I also have a lot of moles all over my body, about 15 years ago one of the larger moles on my shoulder just caught my attention - I noticed it in the mirror as I got out of the bath. The top edge of it was slightly different and very slight darker, but it was enough for me to get it checked. No-one seemed particularly worried by it, although did recommend removal, so I was quite shocked to receive the results that it was melanoma. I am very lucky that it was caught very early and hadn’t gone anywhere else, but I do ensure that I keep an eye on anything that looks slightly different, or anything new that crops up - I’m currently keeping an eye on a lesion on the side of my head. Some of my moles are naturally darker than the others, but I’m not particularly worried by them. You’ve done absolutely the right thing by getting it checked, so I wish you all the very best and hope it’s nothing to be worried about.
