Hi, I'm a 25 year old female. A few months ago I had seriously bad food poisoning. Vomiting and diarrhea. I went on antibiotics and probiotics and got better soon. However, afterwards I was left suffering from anal fissures and hemorrhoids. For about two to three weeks. I believe they eventually cleared up as the pain went away. During that period, and even at present, I have to strain to make a bowel movement. I thought in time it would pass but it hasn't. To this day, I have not been able to pass stool normally, it feels strained and my stool comes out in irregular shaped pieces. I mostly have a feeling of incomplete dedication. Then this morning I discovered mucus in my stool. What could be the cause?
Hey Sarah, Mucus in the stool is normal...Sometimes it becomes excessive, That is also normal...As you have hemorrhoids, and absent history of diarrhea( other than food poisoning) it is likely that you have constipation...You just need to drink more fluids, Add many fibers in your diet, exercise...And I take ISOBGUL for constipation, which is a soft fiber and take it everynight, sometimes two times and in the morning the stool is bulky and soft
I'd see a doctor but I'm thinking the antibiotics maybe threw off your bacteria count. Also maybe you are dehydrated. Have you tried increasing your water intake and fiber intake? Also maybe a probiotic?
I try to eat as much fiber and drink as much water as possible. I don't eat any red meat. Even when I am quite regular, my stool is not one solid shape, it is like soft pieces. Will try a probiotic.
Hello Jello,
I've heard that Isobugal is beneficial for constipation. Would you mind going into more detail about how you take it as I've heard that the "best" way is in the morning on the tongue washed down with water. Or is it a case of experimenting?
Thank you,
Pat
I started using Kijimea it's expensive but it does help. Shiffs probiotics are good too they make one for bowel support
Hi Pat,
Well, for me I usually take it after dinner and in the morning I get normal bowel movement, But for some one who is very much constipated they can use it twice also, One after breakfast and after dinner..You have to drink it after mixing it into a glass of water
Thank you Jello!

Oh mine is almost the same though it was after a stomach bug. For me, about a month and a half I have been drinking lemonaid, lemon, turmeric and ginger and some other stuff, I like it warm and it soothes my tummy, helps with gas and constipation. Natural and low fodmap. I am trying to commit to a healthier lifestyle especially after being pregnant and didn't know then I was taking so many meds. Now, I am going on natural options.
Sometimes it can take a while for your gut to recover after food poisoning and it can result in post infectious IBS. Do you have any shifting abdominal pain? Try lots of fruit such as oranges and prune juice or a stoool softener so you don’t have to strain as much for a bowel movement. See your doctor for diagnosis.
Hi Sarah
I have found my initial issue with not emptying completely was a hardened stool. Although i had daily bowel movements , i still always felt like I didn’t empty all the way. I had colonoscopy and pelvic sonogram and it showed no issues. My doctor told me she felt it was hardening stools and had me clear my system with a glycerin suppository which made me realize that’s exactly what the issue was. I had been dealing with this issue for months so the cause being a hard stool was surprising but that’s exactly what it was. To maintain balance i started using natural vitality natural calm which is a powder magnesium. That helped regulate me. I can still have this issue periodically depending on what i eat that might cause stools to harden but now I recognize how to treat it. Now with taking the Calm powder I’m back to normal. Good Luck!
