Hi, I’ve been having a big problem with itching in my pubic area. The area that is the itchiest has almost seemed to have hardened and I get a lot of ingrown hairs. My entire pubic area just looks horrible and I’m too embarrassed to let my S/O see me naked. Please help me. I asked a functionalist doctor back in the summer what I should do and she said it would go away on its own but nothing has changed.
What is a functionalist dr? You should see a dermatologist.
Do you shave or wax the area? If so,please stop shaving/waxing for a few weeks to let those ingrown hairs get released. Just clip the hair short with scissors.
I'm assuming you are female?? And the itch is only where the hair grows? You may have developed a fungal infection due to being constantly damp and sweaty in that area.
Wash only with an unperfumed soap and no bubble bath or shower gel or "feminine washes" . Make sure you dry yourself thoroughly and only wear 100% cotton pants and no pants at night. Never use body spray or perfume in that area. You could try a 1% steroid cream and an antifungal cream that contains a low dose Clotrimazole, which you should be able to buy OTC,but if there is no improvement after 2 weeks you should see a doctor.
Does your partner have any itch problems in the pubic area?
Actually don’t even use soap on your private area. Soap is alkaline and the vagina is acidic. Therefore the Ph of soap is completely incompatible with the Ph of the vagina. A change on the vaginal Ph can encourage overgrowth of yeast and, hence thrush infection. In fact the Ph of or body skin in general is acidic and I have read that it takes the skin 2 hours after washing with soap to return to its natural Ph level. The vagina is even more acidic than the rest of our skin so imagine how soap must mess up the Ph of that. Use only water to wash within your outer labia.
Oh yes, and stop shaving that area (if you do so) - that would be the cause of the ingrown hairs.
From itching you might have developed some sort of Lichen Simplex Chronicus. Is it in the vulva folds or just where the hair is growing? And yes leave the hair done there alone until you solve issue
