I asked my doctor right away when she prescribed me Citalopram if it affects birth control. She said no and that she felt comfortable with me taking them both. When I got home I found an interaction finder. It said there were no known interactions between Citalopram and my brand of birth control.
Has anyone heard that Citalopram decreases the effectiveness of birth control? I'm going to call planned parenthood tomorrow and ask a nurse there. Probably should have done that right away too.
Hi. I think you are doing the right thing by talking to a nurse. Did your doctor explain to you that Citalopram is an addictive drug and you will have to wean yourself off of it at some stage. Are you suffering depression or anxietyor both?
It's for anxiety. I'm hoping to come off of it eventually. I just needed a little help with life right now.
Did your doctor offer you anythng else? Something a little less harsh such as Lithium? Let me know what the nurse says. Whatever the outcome I would definitely speak to your doctor about changing to something mllder than Citalopram.
As far as I'm aware birth control is not affected at all xxx Citalopram is changing my life for the better, good luck xxx
