Can someone please help?
Yesterday my husband saw the respiratory specialist after a wait of 13 weeks. It has been confirmed that he has a mild IPF - does this mean it will develop into a more serious form of IPF? He had an ECG, a blow test and bloods done while we were at the hospital and has been informed that he will get a further appointment in 2 months for the camera to delve more deeply. He is pretending to be quite laid back about it all but he does suffer with anxiety and I'm afraid that this may infuse the situation. He will be 72 next month and he still does a small gardening round and likes to walk - he only seems to get breathless walking up small hills. He tends to use his nebulizer more often now and he has good and bad days. Other than this health he is quite good - a little overweight perhaps.

Thank you Neville - the specialist did say that there was medication to slow the progress of the condition but I guess he is waiting on the results of the tests yesterday and perhaps the 'camera' test which we have been told will be in about 2 months time before prescribing. We are very new to this and are unsure of what will happen next.
It's very reassuring that there are these types of forums to get the answers.

Tengo 77 años, pero gozo de excelente salud y tengo una IPF leve que fue diagnosticada mediante una tomografía computarizada de alta resolución, una prueba de mi CVF (108%) y una prueba de transferencia de gases TLCOc (66.9%). El médico escuchó "crujidos de velcro" en mis pulmones. He sido aceptado en un ensayo clínico de Nintedanib, que normalmente ralentiza la tasa de progresión en aproximadamente un 50%. Creo que me quedan unos 10 años. Hay alguna posibilidad de que se desarrolle un mejor medicamento a tiempo.
Me sorprende que hayas tenido un diagnóstico sin alguna discusión sobre el tratamiento. Quizás aún no están seguros. Esto podría ser bueno y hay varios tipos de enfermedades pulmonares intersticiales con diferentes pronósticos.
Estoy furioso porque, debido a un diagnóstico temprano y a que mi CVF está por encima del 80%, no califico para el tratamiento del NHS. El Reino Unido y partes de España son los únicos países de Europa donde el tratamiento es denegado por las normas nacionales. En el caso del Reino Unido, por las directrices de NICE. Mi transferencia de gases está por debajo de lo normal y probablemente nunca calificaré porque esto es ignorado por las reglas. Tengo la suerte de haber sido aceptado en el ensayo clínico donde recibiré el tratamiento adecuado.
Te sugiero que pidas los resultados de las pruebas. Si tu esposo está por debajo del 80% y es IPF, debería recibir tratamiento en el NHS.

Es muy importante obtener Esbriet lo antes posible. Solo he tenido efectos secundarios muy leves, y hasta unas pocas semanas de retraso son importantes.

Thank you for your response. My husband was diagnosed after a high reso CT scan and it was confirmed by the respiratory specialist yesterday as being mild IPF. Medication was mentioned but not forthcoming and we summized that it was because of waiting on results of an ECG, blow test and bloods. He has also been informed that he will be called back for a camera examination in 2 months. This is all alien to us and because we are not in a private health scheme and rely on the NHS we don't really know what to expect and when. I am just thankful for these forums where I can seek answers to my questions

Tenemos Ninteanib y Esbriet en el Reino Unido, pero las directrices de NICE impiden que se receten hasta que su FVC alcance el 80% del valor predicho.
Voy a conseguirlo porque estoy haciendo un ensayo clínico para personas por encima del 80%. Antes de ser aceptado, estaba planeando mudarme a Francia.
Mi sugerencia a Pippinscat es que pida ver el resultado de la espirometría y entonces sabrá en qué situación está.
