I was prescribed 10mg twice a day by my doctor, as ive been suffering from driving anxiety on the motorway. I was prescribed these to help with the panic attacks and they started to see the benefits after 3/4 days.. after 2 weeks i started taking just one a day about an hour before i set off to drive. and things were ok.. then i had a panic attack and then decided to that i needed to continue the medicine. I decided to up the dose though to 3 times a day.. taken the 3rd before my drive but these made my eyes blurry.. and then set off the panic again..
so visited the doctor he advised going back to basics and taking 2 aday... i just worry that this dose isnt sufficent.. but clearly ive proven it is.. wanted some advice really.
hi, I know this wont help much but I have found that DRs really do know whats best if given the true info! I tried self medicating and it did me no good! so now I follow what the DRs say and if I find things are not working right I explain what is going on and I am either advised to carry on with the original dose or they try another drug! the most important thing is Honesty as when a DR hears an honest opinion then they can prescribe the right medication or even counselling sessions! I hope I have helped (I am not a Dr but suffer panic attacks myself)
Thanks. It's appreciated and yes your right these Dr's do know best.
Think I'm just being hard on myself re the panic attacks.
Best thing for me to do is relax and let the meds do the job..
How long have you been on this medication ? It does take time to really get in your system and I would agree you must take your drs. Advice which can be hard when you want results now ! I too have panic disorder but have thankfully come to be in total control but this has taken many years . try to relax and keep your breathing nice and steady and put the radio on low should all help and try not to grip the steering wheel too tight ! Good luck , you will get there !
Thanks so much.. It helps to see that others have got there.
I initially started taking this around 20/12/13 took it properly for say 3 weeks.
Felt better so lowered the dose and to one a day.. And here we are.
Please Please do get more help with those panic attacks. If you can avoid medication for it do so.
ask if you can have some person to person therapy to try to find out why you have them.
Once you know why you have a panic attack, and once you realise you are not going to die while having one you can control it.
It is probably more that just the fear of Motorway driving. Also having a panic attack while driving is not a
good idea.
While on these drugs do not have any Alcohol at all, the slightest drop can exacerbate the effect of the propranolol.
I really wish you all the best.
