Is anyone getting Aldi Pop-ups?

I seem to be getting a request for a popup every time I come onto this site, as of today. It is for Aldi. It offers me to block it but that does not work. Is it just me?

i have ads on my page too. As far as I know they have always been there.

It's you!!! Nothing for me. But I do use AdblockPlus.

These are popups not just ads.

I used to use the dark web where you have no advertising and no one knows who you are, but I was told I would be tracked by the US so I panicked! This popup only happens on this forum and started today. I wonder if it is something I chose by mistake. It is interesting it is advertising a UK company, Aldi.

So do I and that does seem to keep them at bay.

I have no adds or popups - using Firefox and uBlock Origin. BTW, the reason you are getting adds specific to UK is that "they" know where you are by your IP address . Dont' worry about US spying on you because of dark web, they are doing anyway :). Remember that song " Every breath you take, every move you make..."

I do find it unsettling when I mention something in an email and promptly get an ad for it!!!!!

Read Shoshana Zuboff and you'll feel even more unsettled

It seems to have stopped today. No more ads for Aldi!

I did report it. They aren't supposed to have intrusive ads (they say). I suppose it depends how you define intrusive ...

Thanks. This one was offering a possible prize (£250 vouchers for Aldi) if I filled in a questionnaire. They gave the impression they did it once a month. As there is no Aldi around where I live and I don't remember pressing any Aldi buttons it is still unknown why it happened. I wish there were an Aldi near me!! I will see if it comes back next month.

She is spot on.. Sad society that we live in where everything is commodity.

Hi ptolemy,
There should not be any popups on the site so I am not sure why or where this was coming from and we have not had any other feedback about it. If you do get it again can you reply here or PM me. It would be useful if you could post a screenshot of the page you are on if you do get it again.
Regards,
Alan

Install adblock.

Thanks Alan, I will definitely screen shot next time, I wish I had last time, but did not think of it!

Here is direct proof that "they" are watching every message, every move... quote from "Zuckerberg’s livestream came out as Attorney General William Barr joined officials from Britain and Australia in asking the Facebook CEO to delay plans to encrypt its messaging services, including Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram.

A letter dated for Friday and obtained by BuzzFeed says that end-to-end encryption will prevent law enforcement from being able to track illegal activity on the platforms, and it requests that Facebook allow law enforcement backdoor access into such messaging.

At the Q&A on Thursday, Zuckerberg said that he understands officials’ concerns and that the issue is “one of the core tensions that I think we face.” But a Facebook spokesperson told the Daily Beast that the company will “strongly oppose attempts to build backdoors because they would undermine the privacy and security of people everywhere.”

What amazes me are the risks that so many seem happy to take.

If I'm missing out by never having used Facebook or Twitter then I'll just have to live with that.

I don't mind that, when I place my grocery order, I get reminders about the things I "may have forgotten " to put on the list and sometimes I get book suggestions " based on (my) previous orders". So "they" may know what I have for breakfast and that I'm interested in cricket and politics and gardening.

If what I post on here has me logged somewhere as a bossy, opinionated eldest child that's ok. I am. Not for me to list any good points if any that the "guardian angels" ascribe to me.

I'll refrain from judging F.B's motives.

I have been aware for a long time that certain words trigger surveillance. In fact it has been a standing joke in my family. If anyone wants to look at my boring messages on the other hand that is their problem. A while back I had my phone monitored as I had been involved in a particular action group. The big advantage was you get a really clear line! I was thinking this morning when I heard the news about Facebook, that UK, the US and Australia were admitting to listening in to all our calls by making such a fuss.

I get book suggestions based on my previous orders - so how come they offer me hardback books at full price? When I only ever buy Kindle special offers?
