Hi. I had screws, a staple and a pin put in my foot just over a year ago in the UK and I am due to have a back MRI. Does anyone know if it is OK to have an MRI when you have surgical metal in you?
Does the one referring you for the MRI know about your metal work?

According to this:

probably if the metalwork is non-magnetic..
As Derek says - you must make sure the department knows and you can call them to ask, don't wait until the day you are booked or you may turn up and be sent home while they investigate.
Hi I've got pins in my feet and have no problems with MRI's. I've also got a platinum coil in my brain and that's OK for scans too.
You will be asked to fill in a form about implants etc before the scan so don't worry.
Thank you, Lilylady!
Yep! He THOUGHT it would be OK and said to mention it on the day.
Thanks Eileen.Sounds sensible!
