Is it IBS???

Hi, I've been having a lot of issues with feeling bloated and chronic abdominal pains for ages and it got really bad last year and I was rushed to hospital because it was thought I had appendicitis! I had blood tests done, but all came back normal. Since then, it has been on and off and I've had another 2 appendicitis scares because the spasms have been so bad. My mum just keeps saying 'it's normal' but I'm not sure... any ideas or any tips?? Thanks!

Hi jemma  Just a quick question - did you have your gall bladder scanned?  I had terrible pain under my right rib cage and down my right side, gas, bloating; the works.  I had gall stones.

Does your pain move about your stomach or stay in one place? Have your bowel habits changed?  Have you noticed if any food or stress triggers pain?   If you have any of these symptoms, IBS may be a possibility.

No, I haven't. Well, I'm not too sure but I had an ultrasound last year, and that ruled out ectopic pregnancy (no chance that I could be pregnant anyway) and apendicitis. He may have looked at my gall bladder, but I'm really not sure.

Moves around, yes they have, only dairy and that has now been taken out of my diet (might also be stress, but I've just done my GCSEs so under stress each day, however it was quite bad during then).

Could be IBS.  See your doctor for further tests to rule out other things and ask about IBS.  I have shifting stomach pain, change of bowel habits and anxiety which brings on flate ups.  I have no food triggere but everyone is different with IBS.

Yes, I think I will go back and talk to the gp, as I was referred to a dietitian, saw them, and then they mentioned it. This made me ask her to put it in the letter she was going to send to my gp who referred me. So I think I'll go back and ask if I get the chance. :-)

Hopefully you can get a diagnosis.

Thanks. I'll post here how it goes (if the appt ever happens)

If you can't get an appointment, see someone else.  I kept seeing different doctors to get help.

I've seen all of the drs at my drs office, however, to book a routine appt, you have to wait at least 2 and a half weeks at my local drs surgery. And I'm not too sure whether it is bad enough for an urgent/book on day appt.

Since your pain has been bad in the past and led to hospital admissions, I would book an on the day appointment.   I go to a walk in clinic and can see whoever I want.  However. if I want to see my named doctor, I sometimes have to wait two weeks.

Thanks, I'll try to see what I can do. I'll keep you updated smile

Good luck.

Thanks
