Is it pain

Hi everyone

Define pain. Me i feel heavy leg. Bruised. Achy bum. Slight groin pinch. The odd twinge when walking. I have not had what i would call bad pain. My arthritus in the hip was horrid pain.

Please explain your pain

Boy, I am imagining horrid pain. iF I feel what you are describing, that would be a lot better than what I have now pre op

Clissy i think most hippies will tell you pre op pain is way worse. I know i can only speak for myself but i dont call this pain...i call it annoying feeling and niggles that pain meds does help with

Sassy, You describe it perfectly all normal, will be gone within 3 months. Then maybe slight bruise feeling on the side of the hip. Sometimes it feels like someone is holding a cigarette on my scar, but that's just nerves healing.

Yep, that pretty much describes my 'pain', though I have low back ache on the op side instead of an achey bum 😊

Pain is horrible, prevents normal activity, needs meds

Hi yep you pretty much summed up exactly how mine feels . Changes daily last night in bed I had "heavy foot" soo annoying and knee and ankle uncomfortable sometimes when I'm walking but nothing like horrible pre op pain

Have good day

Denise

ditto all responses ...

heavy leg right after surgery will disappear - pain around scar, inside some discomfort - only saying this as the OA pain pre surgery is so much worse - funny, well, not that funny, how soon I have forgotten that pain and so focussed on the niggles, discomfort etc.of today ....

warm hug

renee

You're right renee. I was moaning to dear heart last night...oh my bum aches...moan moan moan ...hehehe. he just looked at me........ he said remember 2 weeks ago...you walked like tic toc off the wizard of oz (tin man with non jointed legs ). I thought about that pain every step brought. ....i shuddered. Give me the aching bum heaviness...... nruising anyday

Voltarene pain cream for the sore butt, Voltarene pain cream, it really works.

The only problem is as soon as you rib it in you want it to work right away and it doens't. It takes about 30 minutes for it to work but it really does work. It will completely take the butt pain away or else greatly diminish it to a tolerable level. For me it completely took the pain away. Plus I like it becasue it is a local, it goes right to where your pain is, rather than a pill that affects your whole body.

It has a slightly different name in the UK and you can order it on line without a doctors presecription if you are not able to get out to a pharmacy.

Use it anywhere you get little niggles of random pain, shins, calves, ankles, as you recover you will get pain in random places, knee, but it really truly works great on the butt pain and lower back pain that you get from laying on your back.

Thanks Jodi. Remember voltaren is a anti inflammatory and cant / shouldnt be use with oral anti i flam

Dear sassbess that is exactly how I feel and now it becomes easier now am 3 months and 15 days post op tx to God

The pain I had pre op was like someone having a screwdriver in my hip that scraped a bit more off my bone with every step I took.

Now, it isn't pain, although immediately after surgery it was, both inside and out, which felt like someone had a sharp knife in my leg with every step.

Now all I have is a dull ache, some stiffness and right now I can feel pins and needles setting in on my operated foot so maybe it's time for a little walk. That's the worst I have now the op is over and rarely needs anything more than a mild painkiller now. I'll be glad to get rid of the 'big guns' meds which made me feel like I was living in a fog most days.

Hi Sassy, Weird I haven't experienced pain after surgery. On day 4.Knee is swollen after came home, Ice, elavation and hasn't gone down yet. Makes for a stiff walk.

I asked the home nurse about swelling. She said it can last months no matter what you do

I don't know about that sassy bees, however I would note that paramatecol is NOT an anti inflammatory. (Tylenol).

I used it liberally with codeine+paracetamol, and when I moved off of those drugs with Aleve (naproxen) with no bad affects. If I have random pain, typically leg pain (my back is good thankfully) I take 2 Aleve, rub in the Volteren and am asleep within 30 minutes. I have had periodic blood tests and no advers affects. I swear by the stuff.

This I have observed is unique to patients in the UK. There must be some standard protocol that the doctors in the UK uses that causes post op swelling. It is a little survey I have been taking on this forum. If people note that they are outside the UK I always ask if they had swelling, so far no one has said that they do. I never had a bit of swelling nor any brushing at all. I am also amazed hoe your doctors can do this surgery in an hour and a half. Mine in France took just shy of 4 hours, but I had mine done at a teaching hospital so perhaps they taught the students as they worked or something, all I know is that your UK surgeons complete THR's in record time. Almost all of you write that it was an hour and a half to a two hour surgery.

I had mine done in a NHS hospital in Kings Lynn Norfolk and I had no swelling or bruising, at  any time , I am now 14 weeks post op. I also had 6 weeks physio and 6 weeks hydrotherapy booked by my consultant for me. If you look on the internet the proposed normal time for a Hip Replacement is 1.5 to 2 hours.  I was also told this by my surgeon. Hope this helps your survey xx

Ho jodi im austrslis. I had swelling of the knee...and if i do slot or sit yoo long my ankle swells

It was an hour and a half surgery on a Hana table, and I had knee swelling and ankle swelling and toes swelling, the entire leg from knee down for
