Is it worth getting an actipatch?

Not long now til my pre-op (Nov 23) / op (Dec 4), but pain has got much worse recently - could barely walk yesterday. I don't tolerate painkillers v well. Wondered about actipatch?

I tried one, cos I also don't tolerate pain killers, but it didn't touch my pain. I think they're OK for mild pain. You can try one free for a week tho so it won't hurt to try yourself

Oh, trying one sounds good - from Boots, say?

Hi. I bought a Tens machine from amazon mainly to help with getting comfortable to sleep at night. It definitely helped but I did get through a lot of batteries so I would suggest getting a rechargeable lot. X

Just looked online, sorry - I see how to get trial one. Thanks

Thanks Donna - I'll look at tens too x

Sorry I was in a bit of a rush. Yes online, they send you a fixed unit, ours lasted about a fortnight actually. Worth a try tho to see if it suits. We had a problem making the thing stay where we wanted it, used lots of tape!

Thanks billie - I think I'll try that x

abby,

I've got a tens machine in the cupboard, which I tried really hard with.

To be honest it was just a useless gadget and I never felt a minute's relief from it. Everyone is different so don't take my word for it.

takes a few days but Actipatch does help some.

A friend came this afternoon and she said the same. I think maybe it's ok for v mild aches and pains.

Thanks byteme - I've ordered the free trial one x

Actually no, my other half had big pains in his shoulder and couldnt move it and it made his pain go away completely, but it takes time to build

Ah ok, thanks. Good to know

The tens machine pads stay put and are reusable many times as long as you put the pads back on the plastic sheet. The electrical impulses can be strong or mild. I found it a really good machine after the initial post op pain. I think we paid £25. Good luck x

Thanks Donna - how daft am I - I hadn't even thought about pain post op!! Just dying to get it over with!! I'll see if one of my daughter's "yummy mummy" friends has a tens to loan x

Hi Abby, poor you.welcome aboard this wonderful forum! Everyone is very Friendly on here! We are all at different levels.I hope you've got a good team of helper's for when you come home? Don't rush around.let other people help you!! Regards Amanda

Hi Amanda. Well I've got s hubby and 3 daughters, but they're all quite busy. Got a friend who's a nurse who might come and stay for a few days once she's finished work for the holidays ( she works in a school). Have to say, I'm quite an independent person; not v good at being helped 😉, but I know I'll have to be. X

Good idea!!! I have to say I didn't think it was any good in labour (back in the day!!!). I found it very helpful post op though. I didn't want to keep taking painkillers. I also think it's good to use Tens after physio sessions post op, I found I had discomfort or aches in my hip/leg. Hope it works xxx

I was very independent before the op and used to doing everything for everyone. You must not rush your recovery and take plenty of rests and afternoon naps and be kind to yourself. I bought some lovely hand and shower gels because I knew that showers and baths were banned for a few weeks and that really helped! Stupid things like that helped me. Also my visitors did tire me out so make sure you plan for their visits (timed) and have days off in between where it's just your family. I also had a table either side of my chair which was named the "nest" where I kept all my activities (make up, suduko books, word searches, books, diary etc). I would sit and spend an hour doing my makeup and playing games! I'm nearly 14 weeks and back to life where I don't get time to do all that! Enjoy it whilst you can. Good luck x
