Itching after taking Methotrexate?

Hi,

I was prescribed Methotrexate last Thursday (10mg) to add to the sulfasalasine which I have been taking daily for nearly 2 years and since Fri/Sat I've been really itchy.  I've read in the booklet and online that it is a side effect so I'm wondering if it is likely to continue for as long as I take MTX?

It's mainly in my legs worse in the morning and night (in bed), but I've got a few itchy patches on my scalp and neck too.  I'm guessing it is "normal" so I'm not really worried about it, I'm more annoyed and hoping there is something that can/will allieviate it?

Thanks smile

I've had only 2 doses of mex, with no such affect....I gather you're taking pills, not injections.  Have you checked with your consultant to see if you're developing allergies?   Binders and dyes and coatings in pills can trigger allergies, which you may be able to avoid by switching to injections.   g'luck

Thank you

Yeah I checked with the consultant and he said it can happen, I take antihistamines and they've helped.

After just 2 mtx tablets I developed severe uticaria and after a trip  to a doctor had to come off -- same happened with arava

My specialist was extremely pleased I had come off the meds even though he then said apart from trying biologics he had nothing to offer me.

Uticaria is just onestep back from anaphalaxis --

Up to you,  but the reaction won't get better only worse!

Have a chat with your doctor & seek an alternative.
