Am sat in hospital bed right now still terrified and yet reasonably calm considering. Anesthetist has been in, lovely and chatty. Said he's going to give me a GA and epidural. The surgeon came in, drew on hip and got me to sign form and then left. Was expecting him to say, 'Any last questions?' or talk to me a bit about what will happen. I hope he comes back but don't think he will. Said I won't be done until the afternoon which is so annoying but it's because I'm the youngest.
I was hoping of course I'll be in early and get him at his freshest and most alert. I'm also starving and thirsty
Thanks so, so much for all the support you've been so far.
Amy, I know just how you feel and the nerves are something else (I was last on the list too) can you watch some TV? Or a film? Anything to take your mind off things.
It will come and go so quickly, and you will soon have a cup of tea and a sandwich and wonder why you worried so much.
We are all thinking of you on here and looking forward to your next post, after your operation when it is all over and you are well and truly on the road to recovery.
Huge hugs, they will be so careful and gentle with you. The theatre staff are so lovely, so just relax now, keep breathing slowly and soon this will be all over and you will be planning to head home all fixed!
Had mine last Thursday. I was the last one in which meant that the doctors had time to warm up and ease their nerves.
Don't let the physio bully you into standing this aftenoon. I had a GA and spinal and was not ready to stand until the next day. And now I am home and pain free and walking 1/2 a mile.
Good luck Amy! Just enjoy it and let them look after you. Sounds like your in a nice place. Don't worry about the consultant rushing off, he'll be focusing on getting into theatre to make a start. Won't be long until you've got rid of the nasty old pain and replaced it with 'good' healing type pain.
Yes, it is incredible!! Yes, two crutches. It does make you tired and the wrists hurt more than the leg, but one step at a time. And then plenty of ice afterwards.
Thinking of you as it is very fresh in my mind :-)
