I've been taking propranolol for about 2 weeks. I'm on 40mg, I started this for migraines. I also have severe anxiety. The chest pain is on my left side (where my heart is) it sometimes feels like a tight squeeze or a sharp pain. I thought it might be anxiety, but even when I'm mellow and doing fun stuff, I feel it and it won't go away.
I read online this stuff can cause heart failure, I'm only 22 and this is probably unlikely but it still scares me.
Should I be concered?
When I took propranolol it was for hyperthyroidism. It was given to me to slow my heart rate. I experienced the same things as you three days after taking it plus started to retain water in my legs to the point of not being able to walk and then my legs became itchy and broke out in a rash. I would talk to your doctor about it. Some people never feel any side affects and some do. I no longer take it.
seriously see your doctor ASAP, this is a TERRIBLE med, i was on it for a few months and had similar symptoms plus lots of weight gain, there are plenty of alternatives to try hope you get it sorted soon
A lot of people find propranolol really useful and I too, have, in the past. I have tried many of the ther similar meds - atenolol, sotalol, bisoprolol and they all gave me crushing tiredness and chest pain, even on a low dose. I am now finding propranolol causing similar effects, though not quite so severe. Weight gain, especially around the middle, isalso a problem. Do talk to your GP, there should be aternatives. I don't think heart failure is likely but do askyour doctor.
