Just had my second dexa scan, no results yet. My GP requested blood tests as before but this morning the surgery has called me back for another blood test for plasma viscosity. Has any one else had this test for Osteoporosis? Thank you
A plasma viscosity test was one of the many routine tests I used to do, in my section of haematology, before I retired many years ago. Certainly then, a raised viscosity had no association with OP and was used to monitor patients with myeloma or temporal arteritis. In the intervening years, this may have changed of course.
Certain symptoms of myeloma can sometimes be similar to OP, so your GP is perhaps just being over cautious. Sorry I cannot be of more help.
Best wishes and let us know how you get on.
