I am a 47 year old female and In December 2016 I developed a pain in my left ear. I saw ENT. No problem with ear. Pain became worse in jaw and left side of face. Doctor suggested Neuralgia. Saw a neurologist they said it wasn’t neuralgia, had MRI but said a kind of ‘strap muscle’ in the neck.
Experienced pain all over left side of face like tooth pain. Ended up having 4 teeth removed and so 2 implants. The extreme pain remains in left side of face and jaw/ear. Have seen 2 different oral surgeons who diagnosed stress related clenching of the jaw. I am careful not to eat anything too crunchy or hard and am not aware of over clenching, as when I wake up the jaw does not hurt so much.
Implants were fitted September 2018. Since December 2018, I have had a burning sensation in my mouth throat and, most importantly, the tongue. I am in a lot of pain particularly the tip of my tongue. Have always suffered with acid reflux and take Lanzoprazole daily. This is extremely restricting and I can’t even be bothered to speak most days as this is painful both to my jaw and tongue/mouth. It was suggested tongue could be hormone related. I have had blood tests for this and all appears normal. I have questioned whether the material of the implants could have started this sensation in my mouth but this has been ignored by all professionals. Additionally, I am not overweight and I do not smoke.
I am desperate for help from people who are genuinely interested in what this may be as it is affecting my life now far too much.
I need somebody who cares about medicine and can help solve this ever-painful problem.
