Jaw throbbing and tenderness at joint

Hello everyone

The last 6 months I've been going through a rough time. The worst thing for me at the moment is my throbbing jaw. I can't rest it anywhere,it doesn't close properly. My ears buzz and feel full. I always have a tension headaches at my temples, forehead and back of head. I know I've been tense lately so holding my jaw tight a lot. If I push the jaw joint it is a weird pain/feeling. I've been applying heat. What else can I do it's so painful x

Have you seen your doc about how you are feeling and the jaw pain? If ot continues and you are very run down I would seek an appointment with a rheumatologist see if there is anything going on x

I saw a neurologist for the headaches and have had a mri scan and awaiting results. My dentist said 'just rest" ! I'm not sure what to do?

Was thinking it sounded like tmj and it says online use ice packs to calm it down. I used to get it a lot and have auto immune disease. I know why you would have been sent to a neurologist but if you have joint pai n headaches and general fatigue I would head to a rheumatologist to be honest.

I know it sounds counter-intuitive Michelle, but muscle, tendon, ligament and joint pains - wherever they are in the body - are best treated by application of cold, not heat. Heat can actually make the pain worse. Get the kind of frozen peas or separated sweetcorn that come in a plastic bag, wrap the bag in a towel or something, and hold against your face for a while. You can go on re-using them almost indefinitely by just re-freezing. (But don't forget and eat them when they've been defrosted a dozen times!)

I've had this for two years now. My jaw ended up locking closed after the first few months, it was quite scary. I ended up seeing a specialist dentist/surgeon who made me a mouth guard. I've been wearing that for over a year now (at night and a few hours in the day), and it has helped a ton. Even had to take strong painkillers at one point. Also the odd Valium helps the stress. (It's all to do with the stress i've been told)

I urge you to see a dentist and get a mouth guard. Believe me it helped so much, at least i can get through the day now. Don't let it get any worse!
