jittery on fluoxetine

I have been on fluoxetine 10mg for about 2 weeks and have just upped the dosage to 20mg. My problem is it makes my heart race and I feel jittery and shaky. I have shaky hands and it feels like I've had to many coffees is this a side effect anyone else has experienced and will it get better??

If the symptoms started when your medication was increased, let your doctor know so he or she can make an adjustment if needed. Everyone reacts differently to medications. Did you ever have those symptoms before  The increase in dosage?

Sorry you feel so bad, but it will get better. There are a lot of anxiety meds out there. Not all are going to work for every individual case. A lot of them have to build up in your system 4 - 6 weeks before the do any good. Did the doctor give you something to help with the transition? Until the meds build up enough? Like adavan, kalonipin, or xanex? They really take the edge off. I am doing the transition myself and the xanex really calms me enough to function. Let me know how you progress

Yes I did i can tell the medication is working I'm starting to sleep better and my mood is stabilising but the shakes and the racing heart are not fun

Sorry I didn't have theses feelings before I got them mildly when I first started the end and now it's been upped the jitters have increased as well

Maybe it's just going to take some time for your body to adjust to new dosage. Maybe it's the wrong medicine altogether. I had similar experience with Wellbutrin. Told the doctor it was making me want to jump out of my skin (shaky, jittery) and he upped to dosage. And the jitters got worse. I then just could not take it anymore and went to him and told him "screw this, find something else" and he put me on Celexa, which worked out much better for me. You know how you feel. Only you can make a change if you don't think the meds are working right. If the doctor doesn't listen and pushes the issue... then change doctors.

What you are taking is equivalent to Prozac. Not a beta blocker. It is a serotonin inhibitor. You should be able to switch to Effexor, lexapro (my favorite) or Celexa without much trouble if the jitters continue. Also you may want to supplement what you are taking now with a low dose xanex or kalonipin to help with the jitters.

I take 40mg of fluoxetine and have had only a little trembly like shakes hands with this drug. I have been on the medication for over a month now and it's actually working for me If I was you personally I would contact your gp today just in case the medication is no good for you, but it can take 2 weeks to work properly. My symptoms have calmed down now once getting good sleep over the last 2 nights.
