14 days post op and just had all 38 staples out - including 5 bent ones. No wonder sitting has been sore. Is 38 a lot? I am sure I had less on the other hip...
Ooh sounds a lot. I'm just waiting at hospital for check. 8 days post op and a few seem to have worked loose causing me soreness.
I had 27 for posterior approach.
Does sound a lot. I had 24 in my recent LTHR (posterior approach).
i had 38 clips too and was glad to get them out after 10 days. they start to
irritate .
Hi well done! At least you will start to feel better!I had a wonderful shower and it was great being able to wash my hair! Take it easy and listen to you body! Regards Amanda

I think that is normal although I had more than that. My GP took them out and said there were 62 . I hope she was kidding me.
I think mine was 29
Hi Christine
I bet you are glad to get rid of those and now you can have a lovely shower! Another milestone out of the way. I was lucky as my stitches were all dissolvable.
Best wishes for your continued progress
Kind regards Linda xx
I had 18 staples some dissolving stitches and some permernant ones round the bone...... xx
none
as also in exeter
Hi Karen - They stand proud dont they which makes them sore. I also had bent ones which hurt and took a while to pull out. Hope you dont have a big problem today.
My wound opened up a bit today and I had to contort myself to take a photo and email it into the hospital. Broke every precaution rule in the book! But good to get the reassuring phone call back
Hi Amanda - They use waterproof dressings so I showered on the day after my operation. A real boost.
I am being kinder to myself this time round - having Wimbledon to relax in front of is a help as does having the experience to know that a too big a step forward will just result in a longer recovery. As the other hip has had 18 months to settle and never did- so I am being very careful. I am mindful that I am probably having a revision later this year...Thanks Chris
Hi mic - there's a difference in operation techniques and post surgery precautions between every hospital and every consultant in a hospital, which can be very confusing. My consultant is a local leading light but very conservative ... so I just have to go with it. Funny how they dont offer you the staples to take home like they do with gall stones
Hi Isabelle - or maybe your GP cant count? I saw a stupid youtube video by a dr who said the size of the scar & no of stitches related to how fat you were - poppycock, its up to the consultant surgeon. I already seem to be on the high end of the count and I am a size 10!
Hey Christine!
This seems to be turning into a competition to see who has most staples!
Yes sure techniques etc differ...my problem is every surgeon seems to say he is the best in the land!

X
Must have been lucky. My scar is less than six inches long and just had a few steri strips which came off by thgemselves after around two weeks.
Wow Christine your incision must be very long. I bet you feel a lot better with all those staples out!
I am a size 8 so I guess the smaller the size the more staples lol
