Had my preop in musgrave park in belfast on 2nd may,so I assumed that I would have the operation within 4-6 weeks at worst, but when I rang them today they said it would be August sometime.i thought the preop tests only lasted 30 days.my life's on hold at minute
I was told 14 days before op...maybe you'll have to have another pre op!! NHS waiting lists can be months.....
Word of advice.. If they offer you somewhere else sooner don't do it if u can't travel easy. I was meant to get mine in Aberdeen but had to wait months so they offered to send me private in Dundee and nhs would pay.. I took it had op sent home (3 hrs) on a train and couldn't walk to find out no other surgeon will look at another surgeons work which wasn't handy nerveI took nerve pain...I had my op 9 months ago and got a local X-ray at six months but never found out if anything was out of place. Have never seen anyone since op . Don't even have a number for surgeon coz he didn't usually work at hospital I had op...
Thanks crissy-wissy just checking on various forums that 2-6 weeks after pre-op was the norm. I'm in so much pain at moment it's depressing ,so I got my hopes built up thinking I would have the op soon
Thanks for that WendyWendy
Hi. Had my pre-op yesterday and op is June 19th so five weeks away. Like you am in horrible pain and life on hold so I sympathise completely and hope you get done much sooner than August. Are you able to go for a cancellaion if one's offered? My dad, who is in his eighties, could have been waiting months but badgered the hospital most days and was given a cancellation slot really quickly so try that. Worked for him!
Thanks for that , it's good you where given a date at your pre-op.i did ask but nurse said it was up to the surgeon
I can really understand how you feel. I had my pre op and was told I was good to go. I was due to have my op 2 weeks ago. But then I got a call to say the anaestetist wanted me to have an echo done on my heart because there was a slight irregularity with my ECG and the echo isn't until 29th May. I understand they need to be sure about things but you get yourself all psyched up only to be told your on hold I was worried about having my pre op again but was told I was fine cause it lasted 90 days. Theyve 'promised' me that i will be in the week after my echo but who knows! That does seem a long wait for you but take advantage of the time and get everything ready at home. I've taken the extra time to lose some more Ilbs
I had mine the beginning of October, and took a cancellation the week before Xmas! I would ring the waiting list and say you can go in at short notice. (48 hrs)
Thanks for that judiwoo and good luck
Will do judi but don't think it'll make any difference
Crossly belfast. Had my preop in musgrave park then was told I would have to wait for about 4 months. But I was lucky as I kept phoning to see if there was anyone who had cancelled. Was phoned on a Friday in on Monday op on Tuesday walking on Wednesday home on Thursday . What a great hospital service and staff brilliant food not to bad . Thanks willie glad all went well for you,I rang again today and was told it will be August ,so I'm goin to go on a holiday as I believe they won't let you fly for three months after op. I had a holiday booked for August and had to cancel
