Hello guys, Ive been reading the blog, good helpful info. Ive just started doing CIC 12 days ago. Results seem positive. Natural Void is about 50% of total daily output- CIC 50% Cathing 4x/day. Trying to get appointments with 2nd opinion Urologists to discuss if long term I would be better off after a procedure like a TURP or Green light laser or another more recent option. I am 77 , in otherwise good health. My diagnosis is BPH Moderate enlarged with very weak bladder. but I think 50% natural void seems like my bladder has hope? wondering what the risks/benefits of surgery are? would it make it possible to stop having to do CIC? this blog has helped me so much doing the CIC. thank you. Any thoughts?
I am 73, and using CIC daily. My 5th surgery ( after 4 laser surgeries) was a TUIP and seemed a failure. I have been told I also have “weak” bladder.A month after surgery I am able to urinate on my own, but very poorly and absolutely need to use CIC in addition. I have no idea if this will get better. Will see my urologist surgeon next week. The worst part is the medical community seems to have lost interest.
My advise is go for surgery. There is not much downside. It can only help.
Before considering actual surgery, look at Rezum. Its the least invasive of the available procedures and leaves you with the fewest side effects. Greenlight and TURP are barbaric by comparison and don’t generally give better results for simple BPH.
As for your bladder, keep doing CIC, many have rehabbed their bladders to close to full function from a much worse place than you. Straining will only make things worse.
Once your prostate isn’t obstructing things, your bladder function probably will improve. Rezum will leave your sexual function intact with almost little chance of other side effects - 5-10% chance of RE (dry ejaculations - you still have orgasms but no semen) and virtually no chance of incontinence.
thank you! i appreciate your reply. good to know others are going through the same thing. best of luck!
thank you. very helpful. i am going to look for a urologist who does Rezum.
I really appreciate your reply.
