Just starting to take the flu.

Hi, I have had depression on and off over the last few months I have also suffered bad anxiety and a few panic attacks thrown in. I went to see my GP last week and he game me a script for flu. I have until today held off from taking them. I had a bad time on citropram two or so years ago. I took my first 20mg one today at 11.20am, I was just wondering why this forum is so quite. After looking back over the threads it seems to have gone very quite over the last 6 months is there a reason for this.

HI,

I have not been on myself as either I have been OK or soo hacked off that I couldn't even face saying anything and sometime I reckon I am better at replying than actually kicking off a chat.

I am wondering and hoping that everyone has gone quite as they are all doing much better!!?

Or maybe its all this talk of money being short and the finacial situation some folk are in means that the net connection fee is gone due to money needed elsewhere....? Just a thought!

Hi Miss jojo,

Thanks for your reply I do hope you are ok. Yes I know what you mean about the economy. I am now on day three of the flu and seem to be struggling with side effects. I hope this place becomes a little more used as it seems such a shame. so if there are any post readers out their please post.

Maybe this explains it wink

What a silly thing to do! seems to have killed the place.

Hi Miss Jojo and Buster-uk.

I agree it does seem a strange idea to nobble unregistered posts - suppose they have their reasons though.

:? :?

It had gone quiet before they changed the rules to be fair.

I'm still here and still on flu - have this site saved as a favourite. Any queries please post. Good for you for taking the first step to recovery.

Best wishes

Hi day eight and not doing to well. How long before the initial side effects ware off?

Hi Buster

It can take 4-6 weeks on average for your system to become accustomed to the flu, everyone's different so it may be less for you. Stick with it though - it will be worth it.

A few things that may help:

Go for walks in the fresh air

If you suffer with nausea, try a drink with lots of ginger in it - i use one made by Pukka - 3 ginger.

Also found the 4head stick useful.

Take a B12 vitamin supplement.

If i think of anything else i'll let you know. What side effects do you have?

Best wishes

Hi there, me again

Thought of more things:

The vitamin B12 is called B-Complex

Take flaxseed oil - this has a short shelf life though so organic is best and don't buy too much at once.

Very important - steer clear of alcohol for the first couple of months (if possible  )

If sleep is a problem try the following all natural remedies:

Lavender oil on your pillow

A drink with a decent quantity of Chamomile, valerian or hops

Avon make a Sleep Mist spray which can help.

If all those fail there is always Temazepam or Zoplicone via prescription but be warned - these come with further side effects.

Have you thought of counselling - i had some in the early stages and found it very beneficial. There's nowt to be afraid of with therapy.

You may find that you suffer with a lack of concentration, tiredness and possible memory loss - don't worry, these will wear off with time.

Sorry if i've blinded you with info but this info has come from many different sources including those from people who have had depression and come out the other side.

Best wishes again

Thanks MP.

I am finding sleep a problem. Also today I woke up agitated and restless will this pass?

Hi Buster

Yes, that will pass too. Fluoxetine is a powerful drug and there was many a time in the early stages i thought 'why am i putting myself through this?' but the alternative was worse.

Ignore what the leaflet inside says - it was obviously not written by a sufferer!

We are impatient souls and expect results quickly but will have to be patient (although you may find that is in short supply too).

I've just started (day 2) of a nausea headache - haven't had one for over a year. Don't know what brought that on but then my mind is not my own, so be it.

Suppose it's just the illness letting me know its still around, blast!

Feel free to ask anything you like even if you think its silly.

Best wishes and chin up - you're doing well.

MP

Just thought I would update this thread, I lasted nine days on prozac, I had to go back and see my own GP, He said that I had to stop taking it straight away as it was not the right drug for me. By then I was climbing the walls. Well after been off them now for five days I am feeling a lot better I have now been prescribed Propranolol as a two pronged approach to both my anxiety and high blood pressure. I have been taking these now for five days at a low dose but \i am going to be building up to 2 x 20mg twice a day.

Thank you all for your kind input and advice.

regards Ian.
