I have just had an ultrasound and I was told that my kidney is full of large stones and that I need an xray due to there being a long thin black shape in there also; plus mybladder is full of stones as well.
Has anyone experianced the same thing and what happens next?
Have a look on the web for treatment options (I know it's like reading a medical dictionary, and you'll think that you have everything going).
I see that the main cause is dehydration so you will no doubt be advised to increase your fluid intake to try to flush out small stones and prevent them getting bigger.
Have a look at your diet - is there anything in there that you consume too much of? Moderation is the key. It depends on what the stones are made from - calcium is the major substance but it could be something else.
Are you in pain? One might expect it with so many stones inside you.
If you need a cystoscopy, you can look up what that involves. I've had a few - for a different medical issue - and it's a quick procedure that causes really no pain despite what it sound like (and I'm a male).
Ask your specialist if they can zap the stones by laser (or whatever). This will reduce the stones to dust but you might just experience a slight burning sensation on passing water when the dust is passed at the same time. A couple of painkillers will deal with this.
Larger stones might need lythotripsy which I had one course of - it's not painful, you just have to keep still for half an hour. You might need more that one course if you have lots of stones.
Your specialist will advise if anything more involved is required for you but I understand that surgery is mainly keyhole nowadays so don't be concerned.

Just an update I have been informed I have to have my Gallbladder removed and then look at my Kidney after the operation.
Gallbladder removal looks to be a routine procedure -

- so get that hurdle out of the way, and see what's next.

The update is that I had a consultation with a Kidney consultant and CT scan last week just waiting on the results to decide which surgery to have. Also I am waiting to see another consultant for removal of my gallbladder.
Just an update I have had my gallbladder removed and to my relieve I am feeling so much better and I can now eat properly after six months. In a couple of weeks I have an operation to remove my Staghorn Calus so hopefullly this will be a success like my previous surgery.
Glad to hear that the gall bladder "went" well. I had mine done and was in and out within 3 hours. There was no pain whatsoever and the only complaint was that the tiny plasters pulled the hairs on my tummy [TMI?]
They gave me the stones in a jar which people said looked like slightly green smarties!
