Knee pain,

Have no problems walking, but when I go to sit down, I get a

pain in the knee.  It's my good leg,not the THR one.  Just when I thought everything was going right lol

Anyone else had it, I'm nearly 12 weeks.

Oh yes ... this was my second toughest challenge as I recovered (trying to sleeping was definitely the toughest).

I have learned that as we recover our gait has been changing, and everything is shifting to accomodate the effect of the new hip and gait. For example - the effect of the two bad hips was to tilt me forward when standing and walking, so other joints had to balance this out.

The other problem I had was the effect that inactivity had on muscle tone and other connective tissues more generally - causing hamstrings and the IT bands to tighten badly. As these connect up at the top of the hip and just below the knee, this can also cause a lot of knee pain (it gets pulled out of position). If you feel this might be the case, talk to a PT a- there are several simple exercises that can help with this.

Perhaps I was naive, but I did not expect to have to contend with all the subsequent aches and pains generated by all this. Please let me know if you discover anything else useful to help.

Hi Lynn your not alone pain in both knees especially the surgery leg like I really need more pain😥

Hi Lynn,

I know, right - here you are, all done and dusted you thought and then this ...

all part of this journey, darling - you are probably walking more, doing more and not always aware how ... or maybe you are overcorrecting (I did this) - it seems so unnatural at times - your good leg is compensating for the leg in healing process - are you walking unaided?  maybe going back to using a cane to help it along ? and ice it ... a lot of muscles I had no idea I had were starting to make their presence known ---

all is well -

big warm hug

Well, I'm totally with you on feeling a bit put out at the level of discomfort after the thr's. Straighforward walking is fine. It's the bending and twisting of a regular life that hurts

Hi Linda,

I did notice I feel taller, just this last week, I used to be tilted forward, but I didn't realise until I saw myself in the freezer doors at work, before the op. I suppose that comes on gradual, you don't notice it.

I have done the exercises on both legs, to keep them in tune with each other. The pain is just behind the knee cap, only short lived, just as soon as it bends to sit down.

So it possible is, just a knock on effect.  I'm seeing the doc on Friday again, so if it's still there will mention it.

At least mine is just one and short lived pain, would hate it if it lasted hours on end or longer. hope yours settles soon senora.

Hi Renee,

I am doing more bending now, no grabber or doggy poop scoop, so maybe that's why. I do walk quite a bit, I love it. I only get the pain when I go to sit down. But I kept my precautions until nearly 11 weeks because that's what I was told. So have only been, normal since then.

Stopped using my walking stick last weekend, just over 10 weeks. A friend saw me and saw me again today and was surprised because I 'm walking normally now.  Where last time I still had a bit of a waddle.I feel I'm not limping at all now, I think the new exercise has probably helped.Today has been the best walking I have done in years. I limped for 6 year.

I took notice of physio, if you limp use your aids and I did.

I see doc again on Friday, so will ask him if it hasn't settled.

Lynn xx

Agreed, I think it's a case of the muscles geting lazy, will have to wake them up lol

Must agree I had all sorts of odd aches and pains post op - still better than the is pain - it is to do with everything settling down , re learning how to walk and the subsequent adjustment / pressure on other joints and areas of the body - I know it settled down eventually the other two times so I am confident it will this time too. Xxx

Thanks, seems like it has worn off, so that's something else that has settled. Will have to try a lower seat next lol
