Knee popping and can't weight bare

About 2 weeks aha I sprained my knee iced it and rested it but it still pops and can't walk properly how long will this take to go.

You don't say whether this is a new knee or not.Either way if you haven't seen your GP do it straight away

It's not a new new just sprained it out walking. Went to doctors and had  xray which was clear. Just taking anti inflamatory tablets and try to rest it. It's very stiff and won't straighten when I walk and pops. Supposed it will just take time. Thanks

If it pops and won't straighten then there is a possibility you have a degenerative meniscal tear( as apposed to an acute one that youngsters get) i.e torn cartilage. I did mine just squatting down in the garden at the age of 40 ish. Teenagers and twenty something's have a more dramatic tear which happens during sport/ twisting trauma and they cannot walk and get the knee swelling acutely.

How old are you? Any previous knee surgery?

You really need to see a doctor to find out what has happened to your knee   . . we are mostly post total knee replacement patients, and you need someone with medical knowledge and the equipment to investigate.  Knees swell, and do take a long time to heal . . . icing it is a good idea, but a doctor will be able to tell you whether you should be taking other steps.

by the way, an xray is pretty useless at showing the problem . .you culd do with a magnetic resonance I should think

To me it sounds like it's time to visit your MD.

It will straighten when I excercise it but not so much when I walk, seem weak and twangs a little sometimes when I walk but no real pain. I am 58 and had no previous trouble.

Degenerative meniscal tears are like little flakes (mine was the size of a cornflake) off the surface of the joint surface. They get in the way of normal movements until they sometimes move out of the way to the outer aspects of the joint. That is where physio can help. But if it remains awkward then and MRI (or arthroscopy) is the only way to make a definite diagnosis. If your in the UK these days many GPs are permitted to order these. If it's not locking too badly then get some physio, if it's not settling go back to your GP.

Thanks for that sounds good advice. Suppose it all takes time 😜

Went back to to doctors today and she put me on sick for two weeks to rest as she said its soft tissue damage . Had one week off but went back to work which didn't help so hope these two weeks help this time as my other leg is aching as bearing all the weight from the other.rest ice and put my leg up seems the only way forward to heal.

Hope this works for you. a painful knee really limits your mobility and ability to function properly. Rest, ice, and very gentle exercise perhaps. . .

Thanks I do to. The doctor didn't mention a knee support, wonder is this would be benifical?

I wouldn't do it without the doctor's opinion . . .you can so easily do the wrong thing!

Your right. Seems to make my other leg click and ache while putting all my weight on it. Perhaps a walking aid for me thanks

Morning , have rested and ice my knee after twisting in, now can weight bare but knee in very stiff so doing some gentle excerise. Sometimes you can feel it pulling at the back but not painful,it this normal ?
