i had knee replacement 18 months its been wrong since i had it done i wondered if any one else has had problems
I'm 18 months p/o, 0 / +133 ROM and virtually no other symptoms (yeah, kneeling is still a nerve pain issue). What do you mean "wrong"?
No, I did not experience this with either one of my TKR's. How discouraged you must feel! What does your doctor say? Surely he has been working with you these many months??? If not, why? Will your insurance allow you a second opinion? I would think you need to be your own advocate and perhaps it is time (if you haven't already) to be assertive and even aggressive in your recovery. Certainly there is no way for me to speculate on what might be the cause of this but one would expect to be considerably better at the 18-month mark. My heart goes out to you. Please let us know your progress .
It's 19½ and 17½ years since my knee replacements and I have had no problems . You say its been wrong since you had it done , what do you mean , in what way is it wrong ?. Someone may be able to help if we know what problems you are having .
sorry i havent explained my self properly ,ive keep going back to orthopedics for last 18 months had a few scans i cant walk at all when they brought me back from theatre i knew it was wrong the pain is horrific getting in and out car walking and bending it they wouldnt touch it for a year as it can come right on its own well it hasnt x
Hi Shirley sorry you've had problems in the recovery of the knee replacement I have had problems with mine I had both done about 18 months apart the first over 2 years ago has been a problem since it was done knee felt like it was going to burst when I try to bend it past about 8o to 90 degrees also very uncomfortable when getting in and out of cars walking up and down stairs etc doctors said I wasn't doing enough physio and kept pushing me to do more I knew I was doing lots of exercises to recover from surgery much more than most. on my last visit to surgeon I insisted on additional x-rays to be taken low and behold old patella was male tracking in the new joint to which I was booked in for another surgery this October to replace the patella button on back of knee cap if you think something is not right we know our bodies better than any one else insist on further investigations from your doctor good luck

I had TKR 5 years ago and mine is a complete success.
A friend of mine had TKR about the same time as me and has had all sorts of problems with hers.
Another friend of mine says she is not willing to have hers done because she reckons there i only about a 50 / 50 chance of it being successful. Makes me realize how lucky I am.
Where do you live? I had mine done in Hereford and I would recommend my consultant to anyone, but you would need to be fairly quick as I think he must be coming up to retiring age now.
He is Mr Matthew Oakley.
Physiotherapy might help. Where I live you can refer yourself to physio without having to go through a GP.

I had total knee replacement 3 years ago, had trouble right from start, surgeon told me my bones were so strong he had trouble cutting them, so surgery was about 3 &half hours. He would not recommend physio to me for 7 weeks.
I had intense physio then for 6 months, & excercised every day faithfully.
My physio told me something was stopping my bend, I kept asking surgeon & he said I was too impatient, it would be fine eventually .
Physio told me if I kept on going to him another 20 years I would not be able to bend it any more.
I had 3 different opinions, & was told, he had not fitted it straight, the plate is misaligned & the rod is not straight, so I will never be able to bend it any more than the 107 degrees I have.
The surgeon is not interested.
I have been advised not to have a revision as I might get infection also I would have to have cruciate ligament removed then. The advise was also to get on with what I have .
I had this replacement done, here in Spain under my Private Medical insurance, also the insurance told me they only pay 2000euros towards the prosthesis, I had to pay the other 2500
I had my right knee replaced 15 months ago. I walk like a penguin, with pain on every step. I contacted another knee doc and have an appointment in 10 days to see him. I think something is wrong, maybe not, but if there is I will take action. The doc that did it says I had 'textbook surgery', and that may be so. But maybe there is a problem with what he put in me. All I know now is I can walk 20 yards and then extreme pain.Sound familiar?
Sounds all too familiar... as I type this, my left knee (the replaced one) is aching like fury - lost a good 3 hours' sleep last night with this. I, too, was told that my operation was "textbook" and that the implant was universally regarded as the very best type. Of course something is wrong - other wise, why do you have this pain? Getting the surgeon to DO something about it is a very different matter... Good Luck! You are NOT alone!
Oh Shirley, we’re in the same boat. I won’t go into details, but I’m extremely envious of the lucky ones who had attentive doctors, proper post-op care, PT performed by a knowledgeable therapist and no injuries to knee.
TKR has changed me from being a fairly active 73-yr-old to being almost a shut-in. Never experienced the thrill of no pain or swelling. Now my other knee is having same issues. I’m terrified of another TKR, so I’m living in Percocet and spend a great deal of time in bed. Oh, and it radiates up to the thigh.
knee dr thinks my back is causing the problems I’m having. I feel like a tar baby. No one wants to touch me.
Anyway, sorry for making this the Judy show, but no one who has not experienced this can understand. So I’m just venting. I feel there’s no hope, and I keep wondering why I’m still on the planet.

hi judy I'm sorry for you having problems with your knee sometimes drs say things like blaming your back for your problems with your knee anything rather than sorting your knee out don't feel like there is no hope keep complaining ask for a second opinion no one understands judy do they ,the consultant that did my knee has been struck off that says it all take care x
I had my surgery last June 7th and my knee did not bend, hospital did no physical therapy. By week 5 I had about an 83 degree bend, then the accident at therapy happened. Won’t go into details, but will say they fractured my patella and torn a tendon. Knee would not bend at all with severe pain. Doc took me back in for repair surgery mid July, put me n a brace for 2 months. Not allowed to walk for 3 months. Finally got on my feet with only a 30 degree bend. Now 11 months later been told knee is incapuslated and I only have about 90 degree. Unable to stand up from chairs, toilet or out of cars with physically pushing myself up with my arms. Doc says there is not her he can do. Stuck with a knee that doesn’t even have enough bend to be reasonably normal.
Sent to a specialist. Told me he will wait 18 months. Then talk me back into surgery. Remove original knee replacement, scrap out scar tissue and adjust knee cap. Big kicker. Put me in a brace for 6 months. Then start therapy all over again.
I would like there is something that could be done to loosen some of the scar tissue to allow my knee to bend. The scar tissue feels like a wide band across my knee cap from side to side. When I do bend it, it tightens and stops the bending at 90 degrees.
doc says since it’s incuplacated, there is nothing out there.
Could this be true, or is there something out there that could help?
Hi everyone. My name is Nancy. Had my first knee replacement 10 years ago. Had second surgery one month later to remove infection. J ust had third surgery on Nov. 2nd this year. Scheduled for the forth and hopefully final surery in Jan…over the years have had many doctors to look at my knee and many xrays done. Never a bad report always said that there was no problem until recently when a doc at a pain management clinic had ordered another xray and could see the infection and told me how serious it was and needed to see a surgeon immediately..I am now sitting in my bed 7 weeks since my 3rd surgery waiting for the next surgery…During the past 10 years my knee has progressively gotten worse to the point of barely being able to walk even with a walker. Feels like i have lost the past 10 years…
HI Shirley, I had partial knee replacement 2 years ago and while the pain I have is more bearable I still have a lot of discomfort. My other knee needs doing now, quite badly but after going through one op that made little difference I don’t feel like doing it again for little benefit.
Problem is the ankle on the side that needs knee op also has major problems but they will not do ankle until knee is done so thats my dilemma.
when you say yours has gone wrong in what way, is it pain or movement?

Prosthesis problems and implant failure. Another risk with any joint replacement surgery is improper placement or a malfunction of the implant.Try NYC Stem Cell services.

I had TKR 4 years ago, I was private & thought I had good surgeon.
He told my husband the reason my op had taken so long(over 3 hours) was because I had strong bones & he had had trouble cutting them.
I was not advised to have any sort of physio for 7 weeks, in case my wound burst open(it was awfully swollen, anyway, my bend was only about 45 if that, I persevered with very painful physio(the surgeon kept saying I would get at least 130 degree bend, my physio disagreed, saying, if I went for 20 years I would only get what I had, which was by now 107 degrees.
I went to see 2 further surgeons & found out, he had not put it in straight, & it should have been smaller.
I live in Spain , so I sought advice from a no win no fee solicitor, but was told I had no chance of doing anything against the surgeon.
I wish I had never had it done, as I have lots of pain from it & cannot even ride my bike now, as with not being able to put that foot flat on the peddle, I was putting pressure on my hips, now I have iliopsoas bursa & tendinitus due to this.
