Knee revision surgery

TKR 13 months ago,all went well for about 4months but then went backwards with pain and limited range of movement. I returned to the Consultant twice who told me there was nothing he could do. I finally asked for a second opinion and he took an X-ray. He thinks that the new knee may be loosening and so I am on the list for CT scan. He also thinks that the lower component of the new joint may have been too large in the first place. Either way my future is "live with it as it is or have surgery to have a new joint" Help......

What is it with these consultants. Mine told me the horrendous cramps I was getting were "Nothing to do with the surgery"  the 2 things he told you it may be are his mistake . If it is loosening he did not tighten it enough and if it is the wrong size. Well whose fault is that?. I suggest you threaten legal action. Or go to another consultant and tell them what happened.

Good luck.

PS I was told by 3 other medical people that the cramps WERE to do with the surgery. So I rang him and spoke to his assist ant and told her what these other people had said.

hi Nicky

reading your post it's just as if you're describing  my knee

i'm still in pain and limping ...I seem to be going backwards not forwards

I've done all the exercises etc ....but the pain is always there ...

i ended up having a 9 day stay in hospital after the Op as I was bruised from half way down my stomach to underneath my foot ....maybe the tourniquet was too tight or something...nobody really explained it ....just said ....some people bruise ...others dont

I know I'm only 21weeks post op but I feel something isn't right

i will ask for a second opinion if I get no joy from the Surgeon on the 25th Feb

I had to have a revision that was caused by my condition, pvns. It actually ate around the prosthesis and let it loosen. Truthfully, the new joint is superior to the original, a Stryker unit. With the original my foot turned out when I stepped and I always felt like it was causing the rest of my body to beviut of alignment. With the new one, I stride straight and my hip is less of a problem. Of course, if you have to have it done its the same rehab drill as the original. Good luck and I would definitely think about going elsewhere for the surgery. I did, in fact, use a different ortho.
