Do your homework if you are thinking of using either of these for solving your urine flow, have you found out exactly what parts they cut away regardless of which technique they use to do the same basic job eg green light or holep or traditional hot wire turp, once those parts are gone they are gone!
Very little difference between the two other than with HoLEP less post op bleeding and discharged from hospital usually within 6 hours post op and no catheter. Recovery time for both is about the same.
One thing that the HoLEP procedure does allow is that viable tissue is recovered during the procedure which allows for histology of that tissue to be carried out and if cancer is found it can be graded and follow up treatment started. With Green Light Laser all the tissue is vapourised, so no tissue recovered for histology purposes.
You don't say how bad your BPH symptoms are but if they were as bad as mine got over a six year period, the relief of getting your life back is well worth the the loss of a normal ejaculation.
Others will come on here and offer advice on the merits of other methods of reducing prostate size and thus hopefully removing any symptoms and you would do well to research them all and make a choice based on all the info you receive but in my case the HoLEP gave me instant relief from the misery of infections, formation of bladder stones, urine retention, difficulty in voiding, many nights of disturbed sleep.

As far as I'm aware the HoLEP is for enlargement of any size. Mine was a little over 100cc and the chap that went in before me had a prostate size of 80cc.

Tenho um médico muito experiente que é muito tranquilizador. Não pode ser muito pior do que o que passei com várias infecções.
A pity you are not self funding as a HoLEP carried out over here at Addenbrookes Hospital costs far less that in the States and from what I learnt from another resident of the US who came over here for the procedure (he was also having difficulties finding a facility that would carry out a HoLEP in his region of the US), he saved thousands of dollars when compared to the cost of the same procedure in the US, including his air fare. If I recall correctly he was over in this country having the procedure within 4 weeks of making the arrangements and flew back 3 days later.

Fui ao Mayo para fazer o Holep há dois meses. O Holep é um negócio definitivo e deve ser permanente, enquanto o Green light pode crescer novamente. O Holep é para próstatas maiores, então eles fizeram um Holap em mim porque eu não tinha uma próstata maior, então eles fizeram um Holap em mim, semelhante ao Green light.
Fiz HoLEP no México, na clínica Uromin. Muito mais barato do que nos Estados Unidos.

Eu tinha uma próstata pequena, 39 ml, mas não conseguia urinar. O que foi removido,
foi enviado para o laboratório, onde foi descoberto um câncer de Gleason 7.
Desde então, fiz uma ressonância magnética de 3T, que mostra que estou livre de câncer.
Tive sorte, e parece que todo o câncer foi removido durante o HoLEP.
Tive uma recuperação fácil. Tenho ejaculação retrógrada, o que não me incomoda nem um pouco.
Escolhi o HoLEP, porque, além da remoção completa, ele remove a maior parte da próstata, e há uma amostra para o laboratório. O HoLEP tem muito baixa chance de incontinência ou impotência.
Meu urologista em casa queria fazer TURP, e depois de encontrar o câncer, ele recomendou
RP. Se eu seguisse o conselho do meu urologista, estaria agora esperando para fazer a RP, e
provavelmente ficaria incontinente e impotente.
Bruno, your HoLEP journey almost mimics mine. Gleason 6 discovered and 2 years on and two 3tMRIs nothing seen and PSA stable at 1.1. Hopefully you are still having regular PSA tests done to detect any rises, as there is no guarantee that a new tumour might not kick off in the remaining prostate tissue, so in effect you would be on AS for the rest of your life which is what I am doing.
