LDN

Has anyone been given LDN for PMR. Here in the states it is difficult to find a doctor ( GP or Rheymy) who will write a prescription but it can be gotten through someone dealing with natural healing.

LDN is generally given to patients coming off drugs or alcohol in larger doses (50mg) but compounded into smaller doses (1,5-4.5) it has been found to be successful in the treatment of autoimmune diseases).

Any information would be appreciated

Audrey,

what does LDN stand for?

unless there is some decent science behind it as well as substance purity I suspect the play on false hopes, desperation and financial gain for the sellers.

Are there any studies or scientific publications?

LDN (low dose naltrexone) has only been used by one person that I know of and it wasn't very successful.  I don't think it has been used over here for anything or any condition over the last couple of years.

I asked one of the top PMR rheumy researchers in the UK when this question last came up. She has done a lot of reading on the claims and is of the opinion it is not a well founded concept.

" it has been found to be successful in the treatment of autoimmune diseases" - by the proponents, I don't think, from what Sarah said, the work has been replicated in controlled studies. I suppose it is like most things - even the DMARDs that the rheumies quite like to try - try it, if it works for you, great. If it doesn't, another box ticked.
