37 days ops. Left THR. Not bearing full weight yet and have 2 cm leg legth disc. Will it go or my body will adjust ?
Well, I am about 8 wks post THR and as soon as I was fully weight bearing I was surprised at the difference in length between the two. Kept me a bit off balance so I was glad to have my walker to steady me.
My understanding is that it takes time for all the cut muscles, tendons and ligaments to tighten up and that will help some. But with me the other hip is pretty bad and has also led to shortening due to greatly reduced joint space. For temporary help I've added an insert into the shoe for my non-operated leg and it makes it more comfortable. I was rather lurching at first and got backache from it.
you might want to discuss this with your doctor or physical therapist for more suggestions.
Wishing you the best, Lee
I had left thr Dec 5 and it ended up being 2 to3 cm longer, but I knew this was going to happen, the surgeon told me at pre op. Then I had right thr March 9 and this evened my legs up. both hips were needing done so I was aware of what to expect. My left leg was longer years before surgery I had orthotics made to correct the difference. but don't need them anymore, Are you having your other hip done sometme? If not you could get orthotics made to help you out.
Hi
From what I understand the shortening is due to the bone around the joint collapsing so you probably had it a long time before your op. I dont think 2cms is enough to cause much trouble but you might get some low back pain as a result if you dont use a heel raise insert. Anyway you might have to have the other one done and you can ask if they can level you up!
